Stanford won't expel student in sexual assault case

Source: San Jose Mercury News

PALO ALTO -- Stanford University will not expel a student it found to have sexually assaulted a classmate off-campus this year, rejecting the appeal of the victim who said the school had treated him too leniently.

Instead, Stanford will allow the man to complete his senior year but withhold his degree for two years and prevent him from enrolling in a graduate program until 2016, a year longer than the original sanction, Stanford's vice-provost of student affairs wrote in a ruling delivered to the victim, Leah Francis, on Wednesday.

University administrators upheld an earlier decision that the man committed a sexual assault, but wrote that they didn't believe he was a threat to the campus.

A student plead guilty and only got probation for raping a woman at a frat party. The school refused to expel him and he ended up graduating. There were some small protests and lots of uproar, but nothing happened. The school said that their investigation was separate from the police and they did not find enough evidence to expel him. That school, like most expensive schools of high regard, don't care about the students or their education. They just want the tuition and grants.

I have told them to stop sending me letters for contributions. I absolutely won't give a dime to a university that houses RW think tanks and employs war criminals as professors.

To say that "most expensive schools of high regard don't care about the students or their education" seems to me to be a bit unfair to places like Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, Penn, etc. These are not University of Phoenix diploma mills that only want to make a profit.

Universities just LOVE publicity... especially this kind...

...the kind that makes the news over and over, and goes on for months on end with discovery, and more discovery and pictures of victims and videos of their comments, or speaking of administrator negligence and detailed descriptions of underage drinking on campus and all kinds of discovery that opens the doors to the University... for all to see, especially money-paying parents of daughters and sons who CARE what kind of University they send their kids to.

Yup... Universities just LOVE publicity...

The young lady who was sexually assaulted has no cause of action against Stanford, making any potential lawsuit frivolous ab initio.

She can and should continue her media campaign.

given that they are showing an unwillingness to make a safe environment for everyone, I would attack them on that score if for nothing else than to show what a pest hole that university is for women.
