California sophomore arrested over school shooting threats
LOS ANGELES Fri Jun 13, 2014 10:37pm EDT
(Reuters) - Police in California arrested a 15-year-old student for threatening to kill a classmate, shoot up their high school and then take his own life, authorities said on Friday.
Officers responded to a call about the teen threatening another youth just as thousands of people were arriving for a graduation ceremony on Thursday at the Adolfo Camarillo High School in Camarillo, west of Los Angeles.
"Deputies contacted the victim and his parent and learned that the suspect had also told the victim that he planned to shoot up the school and then take his own life," the Ventura County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
The teen was arrested without incident soon after at his home and admitted threatening the other student, although he said he had no intention of actually carrying it out.

(44,572 posts)Back in the days when heavy metal lyrics were accused of turning people into homicidal/suicidal maniacs, the host of the MTV's Headbanger's Ball metal show said that he would get letters from fans telling him how a band's lyrics would inspire them or make them feel better. But he also said that he got the majority of those letters in the months of May and June when the school year was ending. Could there be a connection between school violence and graduating into the great unknown?
I remember how nervous I was about graduating from junior high school -- not only did it signal the end of my childhood, I would be going to a high school minus the classmates I'd had since third grade. I felt like I was standing on the lip of a volcano.
