PF Chang’s Credit and Debit Card Breach Confirmed

Source: Viral Global News

P.F. Chang’s confirmed a credit and debit card breach, a week after cybersecurity Brian Krebs leaked the information. Reportedly, from March until May 19, thousands of cards underwent data information theft. As the investigation is ongoing, the Chinese bistro company has advised all locations to switch to the manual credit card system for security purposes. The data theft happens when the magnetic strip of the card is swiped and transferred into the system. The company released a statement, advising they are in the very early stages of investigation, and implore all customers to monitor their credit card balances, and checking accounts.

The restaurant chain becomes one of the latest victims of the data breaches. Target was, by far, the largest breach when 110 million customers in the U.S., and Canada were affected. The company has endured a marred reputation, and has been quick to advise security has been increased.

Following the data breach, P.F. Chang’s has presented a dedicated page for customers to receive updates and find information regarding the security event: pfchangs.com/security.

The banks in US are the only financial institutions in major countries that are committed to keeping it around. Canada and Europe switched to smart chips years ago.

This is the same as the broadband debacle in the US. The refusal of corporations to upgrade infrastructure for the sake of cost saving is going to bite everybody in the ass in the long run.

By October of next year, anyone accepting Visa, MasterCard or American Express in person will have to have a terminal that is capable of reading the EMV chips on the card if they don't want to be burdened with extra liability for fraudulent charges. Gas stations have an additional two more years to be "EMV-Ready".

If you have a card issued by American Express you can call the number on the back of the card and request to have a "chip and signature" card. In most cases, you can get one. Although I am employed by American Express, and that I don't speak on behalf of them (my words being my own and all that), I can say that American Express issues certain new accounts with chips by default, and are tying out migrations to the chip cards with selected existing card members. Also when an American Express card has gone chip based, it can't go back to being mag-stripe only.

Has PF Chang data breach caused the current deluge of complaints with people reporting unauthorized charge of $49.95 identified as IEPTCS.COM in their statements?

According to ScamCallFighters website the source of the breach is not yet known.
