Full Time: U.S.A. Wins, 2-1, Over Ghana
Source: New York Times
An early goal by Clint Dempsey- the sixth fastest in World Cup history gave the United States national team a shocking lead against Ghana in the teams opening game of Group G. And a late goal by John Brooks, an inexperienced American defender who came on as second-half substitute, earned the Americans a victory.
It was the United States teams first win over Ghana in three World Cup games. The 2-1 score in the Americans favor belies the dominance Ghana exhibited throughout the game. But the win gives the Americans a strong start to the World Cup in Brazil and a likely path to the second round.

(39,351 posts)The game ends at 8 EDT and everyone's supposed to tippy-toe around until you've finished watching the tape, whenever that is. If you don't want your fun spoiled, step away from the Internet.

(36,437 posts)It's one thing if the game is 10 hours off US time. This is Eastern time, for goodness sake. People complaining about spoilers need to adjust their schedules or get off line.

(24,328 posts)Should their situation be taken into consideration or can those of us who live overseas ignore your situation?

(39,351 posts)A match ends at 8 pm EDT. It's 1 or 2 in the morning in Europe. Shall we wait until you're awake and we're asleep to discuss it?
Or it's 8 am and you're on the way to work in Asia. You've taped the match and you won't be home until 6 am EDT the morning after the match to watch it. 12 hours after the match is over you can have watched it on your terms. At that point, we can stop putting "spoiler alert" on threads that relate to the match?
We await your instructions.

The above poster THAT I WAS RESPONDING TO had made the comment, "if the game is 10 hours off US time" which would justify asking for a spoiler alert.
I was curious how far he is willing to extend his concern about time differences
I do have instructions that I'd love to give you, but you'd probably just whine and snivel to someone and I'd get my post sent to the jury
So, I'll end with, "Have a nice day."

(39,351 posts)I appreciated the spoiler alerts re. Sochi and the discipline that overseas DU'ers showed in that regard earlier this year, but I just don't get them at all now that the games are being played in the same time zones where most of us on this board live, especially for matches played in the evening hours EDT, which was my original point.
We'll get another chance at this when the cup is in Russia. Personally, my feeling is the Internet is not about time zones, so if you're on it hoping not to hear about something top-of-mind that most of the world knows about, you're setting yourself up for disappointment, even on a board like this.

(50,795 posts)I would think they would avoid places on the internet that would announce the results. Although I think that might be difficult as there is more than just DU that likely would have it on their front page especially if they are media outlets.
Does that also mean they would avoid watching the news?
There should be enough anticipation watching a taped version even when knowing the outcome. If all a person reads is that the USA won by a certain score they won't know who scored. Or when they scored. Or what type of fabulous kick or other action was performed.

(55,981 posts)a very aggressive Ghana team that managed to score with about 7 minutes to go to tie. The US scored on a corner with about 3 minutes to go. But USofA better play better if expected to move to the next level.
