Obama will send up to 300 advisers to Iraq, is 'prepared to take targeted and precise' military action

President Obama announced Thursday that the United States is deploying up to 300 new military advisers to Iraq, and is 'prepared to take targeted and precise military action.' Obama did not announce any immediate U.S. airstrikes on Iraq.

Obama: U.S. Military Assets Ready For Targeted Strikes In Iraq

DYLAN SCOTT – JUNE 19, 2014, 1:38 PM EDT

President Barack Obama said on Thursday that the United States is prepared to send up to 300 military advisers to Iraq to address the ongoing crisis and has positioned military assets to make targeted strikes if necessary.

He emphasized that "American forces will not be returning to combat in Iraq."

"Because of our increased intelligence resources, we're developing more information about the potential targets associated with (the Islamic State Of Iraq and the Levant)," Obama said, "and going forward, we will be prepared to take targeted and precise military action if and when we determine that the situation on the ground requires it."

NBC News reported earlier this week that an aircraft carrier and two other U.S. Navy ships had moved into the Persian Gulf.

Yep, President Kennedy in 1960 sent 400 Special Forces to a now well known tropical Asian country as 'Advisors'. Why is Washington always first to repeat failed history ?

And then came LBJ and things REALLY took a turn for the worse.

It's just giving in to the MSM and the very loud and vociferous war cheerleaders. This is extremely disappointing, spinless and dumb - IMO. Great, now we and Iran will both be officially helping to further alienate 1/2 the population - the Sunni's, while supporting the corrupt and hateful government who are the ones that caused tis mess to fester like this. I've heard we're pushing for al-Maliki to go, but that's because he wouldn't support our oil grab. That's all the neocons care about and Obama is letting them lead him around by the nose.

So extremely sad and totally unnecessary.

It's not that I'm the smartest person on the planet, but getting involved in the middle of a centuries old feud between different religious factions is not a winning or well thought out move by anyone, even a constitutional lawyer. If we couldn't settle the country after all the time we had scores of combant troops there, what good does sending in 300 do? Can you explain that?

When scores of our service personnel have died for no good reason, our service folks families will take no comfort at all from your thought that Obama knew what he's doing.

to look up from his gin and issue a slurred condemnation. What would the Orange Man do differently? We'll never know, because he and the Republicans have become the Statler and Waldorf of Congress. They bring nothing to the table but snark and conjecture.

There is literally NOTHING Obama could say that would cause Agent Orange and Co. to give even a grudging statement of approval. Pricks.

Dick Cheney is getting pilloried on Fox "News" for his role in the Iraq clusterfuck. That's how evident things are. Why would we want to do anything but get the hell out at this point? This is a true disappointment. Ms. Clinton, I hope you're taking good notes on all this....
