Al-Jazeera trio get seven years jail

Source: BBC

Three al-Jazeera journalists accused of supporting the Muslim Brotherhood have been sentenced to seven years in jail in Egypt.

A court in Cairo convicted Peter Greste, Mohammed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed of spreading false news and supporting the banned Islamist group. The trio had denied the charges.

Three other foreign journalists tried in absentia received 10-year sentences.

Yeah, OK. The US is in a bind. Do you want the Gaza floodgates to open up and Israel to start nuking people? It's quaint how such complicated situations are reduced to such narrow minded pathetic soundbytes.

Note: I'm against Sisi and his regime. I simply don't think it is as narrow minded and silly as this post suggests.

I suggest you go read my post in GD about what this regime has been doing.

I think it's pathetic that you claim to be against Al-Sisi and the regime when you don't support withholding aid and do support the current U.S. position re Al-Sisi. By the way, "enthusiastic" is a word many newspapers used about Kerry expressing U.S. support.

Inane, silly, cynical and protective of the President is what your post embodies, Josh.

Yeah, sure, cut all aid. Let's see what happens. Should be fun times.

"do you want Israel to start nuking people?". The latter is a stupid strawman that no-one, not even Fox News or Condi Rice, would come up with. You can't seriously compare that "narrow minded pathetic soundbyte" with anything cali or anyone on DU has said.

The brotherhood had to be crushed and he did a fine job of it. Without him, Egypt would have been another fucked up jihad/sharia/fatwa nutcase.

tell that to the coptic christians who were slaughtered and whose churches were looted by this terrorist group disguised as a "brotherhood."

Ruling by terror may be a historical practice of Islamic rulers but in today's world, tolerance and coexistence should trump violence.
