'She'd Probably Get Shot at the State Line'

A local district chairman says there's no love for Hillary in the Natural State.

An Arkansas Republican party official is using colorful language to warn Hillary Clinton about her future political prospects in her adopted home state.
Asked how Clinton would fare in Arkansas if she pursued the presidency in 2016, 2nd Congressional District chairman Johnny Rhoda told U.S. News, "She'd probably get shot at the state line."
When a reporter noted that Clinton undoubtedly enjoys a measurable amount of support in a state where her husband served as governor, Rhoda replied, "Nobody has any affection for her. The majority don't."
Recent polling has shown the Clinton brand remains durable in Arkansas, even though it's been more than two decades since former President Bill Clinton served as governor there. Hillary Clinton led every potential Republican challenger except Mike Huckabee also a former Arkansas governor in a late April Public Policy Polling survey.

Inciting violence from the rubes? Great going, Mr. Chairman. Haven't we already had enough assassinations in this country?

Senator Jesse Helms, the likely next chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, created a new uproar today when he was quoted saying that President Clinton was so unpopular on military bases in North Carolina that he "better have a bodyguard" if he visits the state. Mr. Helms later called the comment "a mistake."

Another a-hole. May he be in a very hot place.

The Arkansas GOP official who reportedly said that Hillary Clinton would "probably get shot" if she entered the state as a presidential candidate asserted on Tuesday that he had been taken out of context.
"That comment was taken way out of context," 2nd Congressional District party chairman Johnny Rhoda told Business Insider about the U.S. News report on his remarks. "It certainly was not meant in a threatening or hostile way at all. It was just a comment. Perhaps I used the wrong word."
"It was completely blown out of proportion," he added. The U.S. News reporter who reported Rhoda's initial quote, David Catanese, wasn't having it.
"Oh, yes, 'taken out of context,'" Catanese told Business Insider in an email. "As in -- taken out of our on-the-record conversation and into print."

(4,229 posts)That guy is just a redneck, he was just making a redneck joke.
I doubt anybody thought he was suggesting he'd shoot her or even wanted her shot.
However when you use language like that, it's just really not a good thing to be talking that way as many mentally ill people,
especially Republicans, are walking around with guns.
I'm sure the guy is a gun owner. Or at least is against gun control. However when he says stuff like that he really reflects negatively on the gun owners and also puts gun ownership in more peril than any politician by putting violent talk out there some crazy person might seize on and go on a shooting spree.

(53,661 posts)In the same state where the GOP candidate's family owned the local radio show and gave out over the air the home address of the Democratic candidate that was running against him.
The wingnuts slaughtered their cat, left it on the front steps of their home, and painted the word liberal on it while they were at church. When they came home the children went to the front door and there it was.
The GOP candidate was elected after the Democrat withdrew. Locations where Democrats went to vote in their primary have been bombed there too.
Oh, yeah, he's just joking.

(48,773 posts)However, incitement has to cross certain very hard boundaries to reach, if you want a legal conviction. Incitement to riot is approximately only an offense if it is in front of a crowd that is close to rioting, not if you posit a hypothetical in a blog post, for example.

(18,124 posts)"colorful" language was not tolerated. Any statement reflecting violent intention toward him was dealt with swiftly and harshly. When are democrats going to get the message and fight the fuck back. Fire with fire!!! I'm sick of the namby pamby reaction to these violent threats by the RW and extremist groups. This RWer needs to be taken down a notch or two.

(30,244 posts)How Christian of him.........
"Rhoda, as I learned when searching for his photo, is a pastor at the Word And Faith Christian Church, where he is listed as Dr. Johnny K. Rhoda. Curious about his doctorate, I found this 2010 article:
We learned from Tim Griffin's touting of Rhoda as his campaign chairman in Van Buren County that Dr. Rhoda's doctorate, a Ph.D., comes from Belford University, an Internet operation which Dr. Rhoda acknowledged in a phone interview with us has had its critics. He countered that some people don't think much of the University of Arkansas, either. (He was just making a point, he said, with the remark about UA, that many schools have both supporters and critics.) He said he holds an Arkansas Tech undergrad degree. A friend of ours, a member of the state's education establishment, got so interested in Belford University a while back that he tested its course offerings by having his English bulldog, Max Sniffingwell, apply for a degree in "theriogenology/animal reproduction." On payment of $549 by money order, a diploma, transcript and letter of recommendation shortly would arrive from the United Arab Emirates.
Yup. The GOP official and good Christian pastor who "jokes" about shooting Hillary Clinton has a "doctorate" from a scam school that gives out diplomas to dogs. Seems about right. Also: Secret Service, hello?"

(5,253 posts). . . treating this as an actionable threat? A full investigation of these comments seems warranted.
Less bizarrely, Hillary will probably win Arkansas against anyone but Huckabee, and that of course terrifies the 'Thuglicans.

(30,244 posts)There's no place in a democracy for that kind of language, particularly against a former first lady and SOS who has SS protection. The SS takes any threat seriously. The 60s taught them a lesson.
