Diane Sawyer Stepping Down From ABC's 'World News'

Source: TPM

CATHERINE THOMPSON – JUNE 25, 2014, 9:20 AM EDT

Diane Sawyer is stepping down as anchor of ABC's "World News," the network announced Wednesday.

After nearly five years at the helm of ABC's flagship broadcast, Sawyer is now slated to concentrate full-time on news programming and "anchor and produce television specials and continue to interview the most extraordinary people in the world," according to a press release.

David Muir, the anchor of "20/20," will take over for Sawyer starting Sept. 2. With Sawyer's replacement, all three major broadcast networks once again have male anchors leading their flagship news programs.

After her shtick with Elian Gonzales, and then the fluff on the morning show, I just could not see her as a serious journalist.

CBS is usually the choice for hard news... unless there are political news which I'd prefer Chuck Todd to their right leaning reporter. Cannot remember his name.

He used to work for Fox News, exclaiming why he sounds Republican.

Chuck Todd is a lousy journalist AND is Fox Lite despite having a daily show on "liberal" MSNBC.

I think she's probably right to go with producing TV specials...they can have a greater impact.

Also, we have cable shows anchored by women...more would be better but we do have Rachel, Melissa, Tamron and even, gulp, Andrea...

Ever since her snide "interview" with the Dixie Chicks after the shit hit the fan in Right Wing World when Natalie said she was embarrassed that Bush was from Texas (which actually of course he's not) in London, England.

She couldn't have been more accusatory. She treated them like they were just lucky to be in her presence and have this opportunity to appolagize to America for their awful behaviour. Her whole appalled expression during the whole thing, like they were inflicted with a disease of some kind that she sure wasn't going to get. She was certainly not going to ever criticize the President for starting a bogus war, and the interview was all about prodding and pushing them to admit that Natalie acted horribly unpatriotical and should be ashamed of herself.

Her and David Gregory are cut from the same cloth.

I'm sorry there is such a negative opinion of her on DU. She's one of my favorite broadcast anchors. I've enjoyed the way she showed the humanity in people that she's interviewed.
