No criminal charges for officer who kicked boy

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) Prosecutors say a police officer caught on video kicking a restrained boy's legs out from under him will not face criminal charges.
In dramatic footage that surfaced online last month, officer Germaine Jones of the Boynton Beach Police Department is seen delivering a sweeping kick to the boy, who is standing with his hands restrained behind his back. The boy then fell to the ground.
The state attorney for Palm Beach County said Wednesday the boy had been "disruptive and profane" and had chest-bumped another officer.
Prosecutors said the action taken by Jones controlled the juvenile and was not done with malicious intent.

(3,813 posts)Every time the police act in this manner, they are teaching us by example that violence is acceptable behavior.
They are also showing a lack of self control.

Don't ever trust the police, and never talk to the police, if you can help it.
By the way, when exercising your right to remain silent, you need to express its exercise outright.

(2,868 posts)...that statement is just silly.
There are too many people with bad intent out there and too many people too weak to protect themselves.....we DO need police, but we need better police and need more police training\education and swift punishment for abusive police.

(29,047 posts)the police couldn't protect my family and me. People shoot up schools, and the police can't protect the kids. They can beat up liberal protestors. They can harass minorities. But they have a hard time protecting us.

(21,925 posts)Kicking his legs out from under him may seem mild but you can get seriously hurt from a fall of only three feet. You could break a knee-cap for example, like my father once did when he slipped on an icy sidewalk. Even if the boy was "profane" as mentioned, and chest-bumped another officer, it doesn't give the cop the right to retaliate to get even. At a minimum the officer should be required to receive counseling for his anger issues lest he inflict much greater harm on someone next time.

(321 posts)I slipped on a deck and ended up breaking my elbow. Both my radius and ulna were up around my bicep area. Most painful thing that I had ever gone through.
A lot of cops have shown their true ilk with no reservation since the videos of OWS surfaced. There are some that are psychotic and should never be given a position of power. This isn't to say that all cops are bad just like you can't lump an any other group together because there are a few bad apples. I went to school with a guy like that who became a cop. He said, and I do quote, "I have a badge now and I can do anything I want to someone and they can't do shit about it." I told him he would probably end up getting shot one day for pissing someone off and being a general asshole.
I've met some really good cops who were just good people in general and I have met some that REALLY should be darted and given a guest shot on wild kingdom. I think it all comes down to why they became a cop in the first place.
