Arkansas GOP Official Who Said Hillary Would 'Probably Get Shot' Resigns

Source: TPM

CATHERINE THOMPSON – JUNE 26, 2014, 8:04 AM EDT

The Arkansas GOP official who suggested Hillary Clinton would "probably get shot at the state line" if she returned as a presidential candidate has resigned, the state party announced Wednesday.

“Moments ago I received the resignation of Johnny Rhoda as 2nd District Republican Chairman,” GOP Chairman Doyle Webb said in a statement, as quoted by the Associated Press. “He was apologetic for the statements he made to media yesterday and although he feels he was taken out of context, he knows that his statements have created an unnecessary distraction from the important issues before the state today.”

Rhoda insisted in a U.S. News interview published Tuesday that Arkansas residents showed little affection for the former first lady. He later argued that the U.S. News reporter took his comment out of context, which the reporter denied.

"She'd probably get shot at the state line," he told U.S. News. "Nobody has any affection for her. The majority don't."

a complete Republican. Bullets are that party's preferred response to people they don't like.

And of course, they didn't resign on their own. They were told to, for exposing Republican sentiments a bit too honestly.

I wish to god the GOP would promote this guy to national level of some sort, and be honest about who they are and ALWAYS have been

I am as guilty of anyone of forgiving the pre teaparty GOP as being less harmful than the teaparty version, but the teaparty had not been created (by Koch Bros) until AFTER the eight horrible years of the two time stealing elections George W Bush...

And Nixon, my god, what a motherfucker. And dont get me started on the president that harmed our middle class more than all others combined, Ronald Reagan.

The difference is the teaparty seems to be willing to go against their owners/creators and do away with all govt in that there would be no govt funding of the various programs that cons profit from...

The teaparty didnt get the memo that the GOP exists to fleece the people...

Given the radicalization of both the Republican Party and the pro-gun movement, I thought this guy would be around for a while. Gotta love the standard "taken out of context" CYA line......

That contributed to Gabby Giffords shooting. These republicans like to stir people up and then act like they're being unfairly singled out.

Dude is a moron. He was making a statement about her popularity, and couldn't resist the urge to incorporate a gun into the conversation and then acts like it was taken out of context.

In the latest AR state poll, Hillary outpolls every Republican with the exception of Huckabee. He was probably forced to resign by the state Chairman since it made the party look bad.

BTW, Hillary will be in Little Rock tomorrow on her book tour. Here's hoping that none of the knuckle draggers take heed of Rhoda's asinine comments.

Thu Jun 26, 2014, 11:17 AM
Jun 2014

The anti-Hillary meme has been going on for a long time, especially at Fox News where they regularly claimed that "everyone hates Hillary Clinton." When she ran for Congress, Fox News said she didn't have a chance because "everyone hates her" when actually it is just Fox News that hates her. They couldn't believe it when she won, and they didn't learn a thing.

I only think that because it's shocking to see a GOP member being asked to step down—Sarah Palin had that map of political adversaries with cross-hairs on it, and she wasn't asked to leave.

I'm starting to get the impression that the GOP fears Hillary.
