Shootings rise after China gives its police guns

Source: AP

BEIJING (AP) — A string of shooting incidents involving Chinese police — leaving at least four people dead — has the public wondering if rank-and-file officers are really ready to carry guns, as mandated by new regulations.

Last month, two policemen brought a loaded gun to a kindergarten show-and-tell. The handgun mistakenly went off, injuring four parents and one child.

The next day, an officer responded to a village quarrel and fatally shot a man in murky circumstances. Police also fired repeatedly at a knife-wielding man driving a truck, killing him, even though witnesses said he posed no real threat.

The incidents — which have generated widespread media coverage and social media buzz — come after authorities decided in April to issue guns to patrolling officers to better protect the public and improve police response to crime and attacks.

The quality of the training in the USA is not the problem; the problem is the low quantity of the training.

...the powerful have longed for subjects with convenient off switches. From "guards, seize him!" to the introduction of the taser, the haves seek to silence the have-nots as efficiently as possible. Such convenience breeds casual, careless overuse, and when the victims can't complain, proliferation accelerates.

The war on the poor, like every other war, has an acceptable casualty rate.

I visited China (Beijing, Shanghai and several places in between) last summer and felt safe -- with my group and even venturing out alone -- because no one had guns, not even the police. Apparently, that has now changed and thus, the fallout of such weaponry.

The irony is that the tour guide with my group spoke of the fact that when the Chinese heard news about America , it often concerned the mass shootings. Still, he and other young people were happy that the nation was becoming more western; and I remember thinking be careful what you wish for.

Where there are guns, there is death and destruction.

the NRA to explain the fallacy of logic over there. The number of people carrying guns has nothing whatsoever to do with the number of shootings. The answer is to sell more people more guns. That will stop these sorts of incidents.
