Gov. Brown signs bills legalizing Bitcoins use, other legislation
Source: Los Angeles Times
Gov. Jerry Brown has signed bills that recognize the legal use of Bitcoins and other digital currencies in California, repeal a requirement for food handlers to use gloves, and keep minor truants out of lockup facilities, his aides announced Saturday.
In all, the governor signed 15 pieces of legislation into law, including one that reflects the changing way that technology has Californians doing business.
AB 129 will allow Bitcoins and other digital currency to be legally used in transactions in California by repealing a provision of state law that bars the use of "anything but the lawful money of the United States."
...
Brown also signed a measure that repeals a year-old law requiring chefs, bartenders and other food handlers to wear plastic gloves when touching ready-to-eat food.

(11,517 posts)There's a difference between that and making pizza, for instance. (And yes, I've seen a few pizzas being made - after getting out of school with an engineering degree I couldn't find a real job (thanks Reagan!!) and worked at a Pizza store so I could at least afford to eat.)
Anyway, this isn't an earth shattering change. I imagine myself and a lot of other people on here are a bit bored and need something to bitch about.

(53,410 posts)First of all everywhere I have ever worked in restaurants Chefs and all kitchen workers handling food wash their hands. They also wash all countertops and floors and even the walls with steam. Utensils and plates which are just washed are so hot that you can't pick them up until they cool down. That includes all the kitchen utensils used for cooking. Foods such as potatoes or rice or anything other than the meats are kept at temperatures that are hot enough to kill most germs. Food is taken out of them with clean utensils, not bare hands. Meats are cooked on grills that are cleaned daily and never handled with bare hands. Spatulas are used.
Every restaurant I ever worked in never had one single complaint regarding customers getting food poisoning.
On occasion food will have something like hair in it which is why everyone in the kitchen wears hats as part of their uniform.

That scam cannot and will not last much longer.

I feel like most of the harm that might result from Bitcoin legalization will be limited to the technology and internet moguls. Real people aren't stupid enough to use fake currency.

(101,294 posts)It's not about the use - people can use barter to settle debts, if both parties agree. AB 129 says:
and Corporations Code section 107 says:
Existing law prohibits a corporation, flexible purpose corporation, association, or individual from issuing or putting in circulation, as money, anything but the lawful money of the United States.
This bill would repeal that provision.
