Santorum: ‘Maybe It Wasn’t’ Bad That Founders Put Limits on Who Could Vote

Last edited Mon Jun 30, 2014, 02:13 AM - Edit history (1)

Source: Mediaite

Rick Santorum was on C-SPAN today, and during a discussion about U.S. foreign policy and bringing democracy to other nations, Santorum suggested that “maybe it wasn’t” bad that the Founding Fathers placed certain limits on who could vote in U.S. elections at the start.

Santorum said nations like Egypt are ready for democratic elections, despite how noble U.S. goals might be. He brought up America’s founding to make a point about allowing everyone to vote in the infancy of a nation’s history.

Santorum did not say in any way that the U.S. ought to have any limits on who can vote nowadays, but he did suggest that the Founders might have done the right thing in limiting who could vote back when America got started.

“Were we ready for an election when the United States was formed to have everybody in the United States vote? Well, our Founders didn’t think so. They limited the people who could vote in an election. Now you could say that’s horrible, that’s terrible. Well, maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t. But it was a decision that was made to make sure that there was some continuity and stability within the government.”

The only surprise here is that he's letting his freak show flag show a little bit under his suit.

They've been calling for years to have an Article 5 Constitutional Convention to repeal all of the commie amendments after the 10th.

But really, they want the Constitution itself to go away and get back to the Articles of Confederation. Now VT and CA have voted for that Article 5 convention. To do what the Koches have wanted for 50 years.

Ricky's just watering the stinkweed the Reich wingers have been selling for many years. Their first big name promoting it was Ann Coulter. Brace yourself, folks, they won't disappear in a puff of smoke. That's magical thinking, so GOTV. Have no faith that Gawd will fix it all for us.

And "maybe it wasn't" bad you pulled out of the primaries in April.

And "maybe it wasn't" bad your name became part of one of the funnier Internet memes around.

Oh...I've told this one before but it's still good: In 2012 Idaho decided to become "a player" in the presidential nominating system, so we had a Republican caucus in March. All the R's came to town, at least the ones who were still in the race. Ricky Boy came to Coeur d'Alene and spoke to a packed house at the Hagadone Event Center on the east side of town. (Most of the events it gets are weddings.) A few days after he left town, it was College Paper Publication Weekend and I went over there to look at it, as I usually do. Two pages in and I just go off:

"We are NOT printing this headline! I don't care how much you love it. We're not printing it!"

'What's the headline?'

"Santorum Fills Event Center."

I thought the teacher over there was going to piss himself, he was laughing so hard.

I have said it before but it always bears repeating; The only reason the GOP is always creating laws and restrictions on voting is because they know that if everyone was allowed to vote and actually did vote, the GOP would be gone.

The GOP would never win another election if everyone eligible to vote was allowed to vote and did vote.

House Reps at that. Moreover, there was no univeral education then.

Under those conditions, Santorum might actually have a shot at the Presidency.

And now, maybe you get why I oppose Framer worship.

Maybe they were slightly more egalitarian than King George III and his House of Commons. And probably equally interested in his tax on tea (and the other imports their ships were bringing to the colonies).

Since the days of the East India Company, the story's been essentially the same: Follow the money. And when you do, odds are it leads AWAY from your door.

Thomas Jefferson wrote:

Some men look at constitutions with sanctimonious reverence, and deem them like the ark of the Covenant, too sacred to be touched. They ascribe to the men of the preceding age a wisdom more than human, and suppose what they did to be beyond amendment... laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind... as that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, institutions must advance also, to keep pace with the times.... We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain forever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors.

I hope he runs for president again. Its very important that the voters associate idiocy with the GOP.

Finding out how someone so conservative like Santorum or Toomey can win statewide elections in a moderate state like PA is something that democratic activists and strategists should study. It also shows the importance of getting Dem voters to the polls for midterm elections.

Old Rick might not like it if someone opposed to his type of person decided that they couldn't vote. How about if only veterans could vote. Sorry Rick, but that ain't you! Or, only persons who provide services to the public, such as doctors, teachers, nurses, store clerks, firemen, military personnel, etc. Again, Rick couldn't vote. Or, only people who actually work with their hands, like carpenters, plumbers, loggers, farmers, etc. could cast a ballot. Rick couldn't vote again.
Maybe Rick the Prick is right, only Certain people should be allowed to vote. And HE should be one that Can't. I got not problem with his line of thinking, but only if greedy lawyers, and racist former politicians aren't allowed to vote.

The girl in front looks like she just got snatched from a scene of little house on the prairie. The girl in back looks like she just wants to get the fuck out and smoke a doobie. The boy has a look on his face like he is wondering why the front of his pants are getting tight when the lady in the audience bends down. Wrap that up with valium queen mom and you have the perfect almost first family.

I really wonder what the oldest daughter thinks of dear old dad and the crap that he puts out. Maybe when he gets old and bedridden, she will yank him up by his foley catheter and yell "WTF YOU PSYCHO FREAK!"

Just an observation there.....
