Obama to hold meetings Monday on Ferguson

WASHINGTON (AP) President Barack Obama will discuss the situation in Ferguson, Missouri, Monday with his Cabinet, civil rights leaders, law enforcement officials and others.
The White House says Obama's Cabinet meeting will focus on his administration's review of federal programs that provide military-style equipment to law enforcement agencies.
The White House says the president will also meet with young civil rights leaders to discuss the challenges posed by "mistrust between law enforcement and communities of color." He'll then meet with government and law enforcement officials, as well as other community leaders, to discuss how to strengthen neighborhoods.
Protests have continued in Ferguson, but have been more muted than the violence sparked last week by a grand jury's decision not to indict a police officer in the shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown.

(17,656 posts)It doesn't matter what President Obama does anymore, a lot of the members of DU have such quick knee-jerk reactions to what he does, it doesn't really matter what he does, they still think he is wrong for doing it.
If President Obama says something about an issue, they criticize him for speaking out about it, or not going far enough.
If President Obama takes some action to solve a dilemma, they criticize him for taking the action, or not going far enough.
Yet, strangely, the majority of those people can't define what "going far enough" entails.

(57,936 posts)I wish he had given the same recognition and the same time and interest to the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations and movement.
Democrats probably would have won the midterms if Obama had responded to the bank fraud and the concerns of the Occupy Wall Street movement as he is responding to the Ferguson demonstrations and the movement forming around Ferguson issues.
A lesson learned too late: don't ignore the concerns of your base. Ferguson is one. But so are the crimes that caused the 2008 crash.
I'm glad to see that he is going to look into the over-militarization of our police forces.
Our police officers need better training in how to reduce violence and less in how to perpetrate it.
