A powerful labor union is helping Mayor de Blasio woo the Democratic National Convention to Brooklyn in 2016, the Daily News has learned.
The Hotel Trades Council, which represents 32,000 hotel workers, is planning to spend tens of thousands of dollars to boost Brooklyn over the other two finalists, Philadelphia and Columbus, Ohio.
Part of the pitch will focus on reminding the selection committee that the Democratic nominee will need substantial labor support to counter the super PAC support that a Republican opponent is expected to receive, said Hotel Trades political director Josh Gold.

(78,249 posts)Mom, a self-described centrist Dem, actually voted for the repuke over de Blasio! Needless to say, R.S. hates anything having to do with unions or de Blasio, and sadly, Mom's not far behind. Add in the prospect of some additional traffic congestion (most of the delegates would be staying in Manhattan), and we've hit the trifecta around the breakfast table! (I am leaving tomorrow afternoon, however. )

(6,960 posts)I'm all for the unions and all for de Blasio, but from a strictly political image perspective, Columbus is more middle America and will help the Democrats more in 2016.

(99,493 posts)But the going to NC didn't help us in 2012. The idea is to get union $ that sat out BECAUSE of NC back in play. I'm ok with Columbus since it is a swing state.
