AT LEAST 9 ARRESTED IN THIRD NIGHT OF CALIFORNIA PROTESTS

Source: AP

BY KRISTIN J. BENDER AND PAUL ELIAS

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) -- Berkeley police say nine people were arrested as crowds marched for a third night in a row to protest grand jury decisions not to indict white police officers in the deaths of two unarmed black men.

Demonstrators blocked traffic on both sides of Interstate 80, while another group stood and sat on tracks, forcing an Amtrak train to stop Monday night.

Officer Jennifer Coats said early Tuesday that police estimated the crowd at about 1,500. She says eight adults and one juvenile were taken into custody during the mostly peaceful protests. There were no injuries and no reports of damaged property.

Coats says the California Highway Patrol may have made more arrests as a smaller group broke away and went onto the interstate. CHP arrest numbers are not immediately available.

Hold those at the bottom in absolute contempt and continual presumption of guilt, while those at the top can torture, maim, and murder with apparent impunity.

while another group stood and sat on tracks, forcing an Amtrak train to stop Monday night.

Trains do not stop quickly due to the steel wheels on steel rails. That could easily have been a lot of dead protesters by no fault of the train crew.
