Listening devices found in Oslo, prompting spying investigation

Source: Reuters

(Reuters) - Norwegian police are investigating a possible spying operation by a foreign power after electronic devices designed to intercept telephone conversations were discovered near government buildings.

In its own two-month investigation, the daily newspaper Aftenposten detected signals from several surveillance devices that had been placed near the prime minister's offices, the central bank, parliament and major company headquarters.

"We can't exclude the possibility that this is coming from foreign state agencies," said Siv Alsen, spokeswoman for the police's intelligence unit, which will carry out the investigation.

Aftenposten said the devices were able to attract mobile phone signals and record conversations.

"our exceptionalism" is way out of control. Kind of like the "exceptionalisim" mirrors that of "the master race."

At this point, we don't require special hardware on site -- we can just hoover up everything directly.

Although I wouldn't put it past us doing this as a false flag to point the finger at, say, Putin.

Everyone spies on everyone, even allies.

Doesn't make it legal or any less irritating, of course, but it's definitely one of those Things That Countries Do.

... or financial types seeking information for illegal insider trading.

It could even be lobbyists or gangsters seeking information for political or monetary blackmail.

Making a series of threatening gestures toward former Baltic vassals. Norway and other Scandinavian areas - especially Finland, need to be extra alert.

The Russian Bear is feeling threatened by falling oil revenues, sanctions and continuing criticism over Ukraine hostilities. Lashing out. May just be a lot of noise, but if Putin is as nuts as I think he is, things could go terribly wrong terribly fast.
