Keystone XL pipeline: TransCanada sends final offers to 100-plus Nebraska landowners

Source: OMAHA WORLD HERALD

By Joe Duggan / World-Herald Bureau

LINCOLN — As the Republican leader in the U.S. Senate pledged quick approval of the Keystone XL pipeline early next year, final offers were landing Tuesday in dozens of Nebraska mailboxes.

TransCanada Corp. said it mailed new offers of right-of-way payments this week to more than 100 Nebraska landowners who have refused to sign an easement contract.

The letters also say the company will pursue eminent domain against landowners who don’t agree to terms by Jan. 16. The company says Nebraska law requires condemnation proceedings to start within two years of the state’s approval of the pipeline route, which occurred Jan. 22, 2013.

“This really is an effort to reach voluntary agreements rather than going through the eminent domain process,” said Andrew Craig of Omaha, Keystone’s land manager. “We always prefer to go through negotiations.”

We now have MULTI-QUAZI government business saying basically, screw you and the house you reside in.
They have basically bribed the Montana government led by republicans and republican farmers and ranchers and some so called democrats that have no couth or principles , they have bribed the state of North Dakota and South Dakota because they are bought and sold out by republicans farmers and ranchers and some so called democrats that also have no couth or principles.
Then we have the first people (Native Americans) of Canada and in this country saying basically to this corrupt firm, screw you---enough is enough, which I back and send my support in anyway I can.
And then we have the Nebraska Coalition who are against this polluting pipeline basically saying to this firm, screw you and the horse you road in on, but they keep voting into office people that are trying to screw them.
Then there was a vote in the senate, to basically tell this corrupt firm, screw you and the horse you road in on, and then we have people in Nebraska saying to them, you will not contaminate the Oglala Aquifer and screw you .

And now we have in this country republicans telling everyone they will bring it up next year and so screw you and us and the horse we are on.

Now there is the threat of eminent domain being thrown into the mix by a company that thinks its a citizen of the country and we have supporters of this saying go for it, namely republicans.

This crew and there supporters don't quite understand the word NO, maybe a big old sign where this stake is should give them a clue.
NO means NO

Are we safe from no one? It's bad enough we have to fight the Pugs in the US. Now, we have to fight our neighbors? I thought they had alternate routes? Use them across Canada and stay out of the middle of our country...or, anywhere else.

Now, someone is trying to cross Iowa with a @#$%% pipeline. Of course, our RE-elected REpublican governor goes along with it. It would miss me by about 15 miles.

I'm losing faith in everything. These next two years are going to be disastrous.

Keystone XL deserves to be rejected just on the basis of the heavy-handed nasty M.O. of TransCanada and the Canadian government alone. (They've even stooped to plastering the Metro in DC with ads. . unbelievable).
Veto, veto, veto this, President Obama, for the sake of our heartland, and for future generations.

A good story on this on NPR, highlighting a conservative editor who's consistently come out against Keystone, because of the danger to the aquifer.
http://www.npr.org/2014/12/16/371216129/on-nebraskas-prairies-keystone-xl-pipeline-debate-is-personal

excerpt 1:

The Dunavans say that, as Catholics, they see conservation as a moral issue. So they worry about a potential pipeline leak contaminating the vital Ogallala Aquifer, which stretches underneath nearly all of Nebraska, and about the environmental effects up in Canada, where the tar sands oil that will run through the pipeline is extracted. As divisive as the fight over the pipeline has been, it has also built community. For years, the Dunavans thought they were the only ones against the project. Now, they've found allies among their neighbors. "We all believe that our land is sacred, our water is sacred," Susan says. "We don't want a quick monetary, economic ... 'fix.' Let's look at the big picture. The big picture is like, forever. I want to pass this on to the next generations."

excerpt 2, on the conservative editor:
In town, Greg Awtry defies the easy stereotype of the liberal Keystone opponent. The publisher of the local newspaper, the York News-Times, is a self-described capitalist. "I'm very conservative," he says. "Profit is good!"This capitalist publisher figures he's written 50 editorials against the pipeline.

"The only place I think that this is political would be Washington," he says. "Out here on the ground, we have very conservative lifelong Republican ranchers and farmers, arm-in-arm with the very liberal environmentalists who had little to nothing in common along those lines before this came up." Awtry's main concern is the kind of oil that would run through the pipeline: tar sands oil diluted with chemicals. He sees that mixture as a dire threat that could contaminate the water supply that runs underneath nearly all of Nebraska.
"We are talking about one of the greatest natural resources in the United States of America: the Ogallala Aquifer, which furnishes drinking water to people in eight states," he says. "So even though the risk may be minimal, minimal risk is not acceptable."

See, no longer is merely buying something enough for you to own it. You can buy cell phones but can't change them. You can buy land but if a foreign entity needs it to make a profit, well too bad. You had better have a boat load of money to buy up thousands of lawyers to protect your right to ownership.

Much like feudalism where the king, or any arbitrary lord or company he may appoint, owned everything from the farm your family had worked for decades to the stream that ran next to your hovel, to the virginity of your wife and the fighting power of your future sons. Everything was the kings and everything could be taken away from you if the king, or some arbitrary lord or company he may appoint, wanted or needed what you had for their own profit. You are merely a temporary receptacle to maintain and improve the wonderful things your king allows you, until someone else wants them.

Now how did we finally overthrow feudalism? We need to know because for all practical purposes feudalism is back. But instead of a king we have very small handful of very wealthy elite capitalists who want what they want when they want it. Even if it is yours.

It's odd that conservatives promote the government legislating the seizure of private land for the benefit of a foreign energy company while the price of gas falls and use goes down. Go figure. What a bunch of bobble headed dollies.
