By Bob Sullivan

Finally, an honest CEO.

Ryanair head Michael O'Leary called his customers "idiots" this week. The chief of the deep-discount, “gotcha”-dependent airline might be the first to say it, but he's hardly the first to think it.

O'Leary was speaking specifically about fliers who fail to print their boarding passes before they arrive at the airport, and are forced to pay Ryanair's 60-euro fee. The issue came to a head after a mom paid about $380 so her family could get the paperwork to fly home from Spain to Britain. She aired her concerns on Facebook and got hundreds of thousands of "likes." O'Leary responded to the controversy as many CEOs would after being administered a truth serum.

"We think Mrs. McLeod should pay 60 euros for being so stupid," he reportedly told The Telegraph before piling on the sarcasm. "She wasn't able to print her boarding card because, as you know, there are no Internet cafes in Alicante, no hotels where they could print them out for you, and you couldn't get to a fax machine so some friend at home can print them and fax them to you."

It is all about screwing the consumer, especially if the consumer doesn't have knowledge or time. Screw that person..that is what this guy is saying..Well, he represents so many CEOs that it make me sick

anybody that would willingly fly with Ryanair, at least a second time, almost deserves that moniker.

I had to fly from London to Dublin almost last minute a couple of years ago and the only airline our travel group was able to get me without massive last minute fees was Ryanair.

Our admin told me that the online booking was pretty easy once she figured out how to opt out of all the fees but from the moment I arrived at the kiosk in the airport to the time I left the jetway in Dublin I knew I hated that airline. We were packed in like sardines, horrible even by USAirways cattle-class standards. The staff, ground and in-air, was almost as morose and pathetic as those of us unlucky enough to be jammed in there.

Never, ever again. After my flight I was able to get my company to put them on the last choice list on our travel program. In other words only take this if it's an emergency.

for those kind of fees, of course, ryanair could easily afford a printer and an internet connection at every gate.

but then, that would actually solve a problem instead of providing an excuse to gouge customers.

for that matter, why do we need a printed boarding pass, anyway? if they can ticket us electronically, they can board us that way as well.
