On another thread, someone here said the number killed by guns, considering the number of guns in circulation, is 'not that many.' I could throw up.

...why three separate bills could not have been brought to the floor of the Senate?

1. Assault Weapons Ban
2. Magazine Capacity Restriction
3. Background Checks for all gun sales

Let the Senators and Representatives vote on each proposal, and be held accountable by their constituents for their vote.

Isn't that the way it's supposed to work in the USA?

into an even more vulnerable position. Everything that is done politically, has some sort of a political price. I think Reid is smart by trying to quash the AWB and protect democrats in western states. the AWB is a symbolic measure that will do little to reduce gun violence in this country. Universal background checks coupled with a limit on how many weapons can be purcahsed by an individual at one time could significantly reduce the flow of crime guns- while not even touching a "gun ban".
