Putin TV (RT) "frequent guest" Alex Jones, inspiration for LV shooters, says Obama = Martial Law

This is the guy largely responsible for the anti-government fanaticism, chemtrail conspiracy theories, Bundy-Ranch-worshipping mindset that permeates our country and snares freaks like the Las Vegas shooters

1. March 20, 2012 - You are really having to dig to find this "frequent" guest ;)

I don't usually post RT, though it is pretty much as accurate as most mainstream new channels. Just a different "selection". However I just decided to post one that is actually informative.

But there are plenty of liberal/progressive sites to post from to expose the lies - like about those Ukraine brought us by "Bandera" lovers, neo-liberals, and neocons.

I think everyone here knows about Alex.

4. Yea right. You choose your propoganda sources and dis the others. I use progressive sources

I just have an aversion to bigotry and your crusade seems to cross a number of lines in both terms of objectivity and truth telling.

It is apparent to most here that there are not unbiased mass media outlets. So your point is really mute. Every media outlet must be scrutinized and if it is important information verified with trustworthy reporting outside the mainstream.

Kyiv Post is not a trustworthy source either, and far more biased - entirely propaganda (without any voices like Tom Hartmann etc). But you don't see people here crusading against it.

5. There you go again, playing the "bigotry" card. You should be ashamed

Nowhere have I come close to bigotry, so back off.

You're lashing out because you don't like the fact that RT = FOX News of Putin. There's no point in "scrutinizing" either of them. They're trash.

I mention RT constantly because people constantly put it on the DU vids. When I see some dupe or Putin apologist putting up RT vids, I put up a vid about the truth of RT. Simple as that. If you don't like that the dictatorship of Russia is not admired by real progressives, go post with fans of RT--Ron Paul chatrooms seem to love it.

6. A cold war ideology is no excuse for people here negatively stereotyping a culture

The old cold warrior mentality is unfortunately somewhat of a "dog whistle" for hatred and is used as an excuse to diminish the general population of Russian speakers worldwide.

If someone consistently posts a wide variety of links and videos without any semblance of distinction between the more distasteful people or traits and basically blankets a culture; that is expression of bigotry. Also, pushing, over and over, a negative stereotype caricature about a people while at the same time claiming that a similar (minority also) population in another country are somehow better intentioned (or less representative) is a classic example of the expression of bigotry.

Maybe I am missing the posts where you have made some positive comments about Ethnic Russians, because I haven't seen that distinction made often if at all in your posts on the subject.

7. does slamming FOX News = being bigoted toward people from the USA?

Of course not. Stop being ridiculous. Start understanding that human rights supporters will fight against a totalitarian dictator and his propaganda network.

And you can have an intellectually honest discussion without broad brushing and stereotypes. Human Rights cannot be moved forward upon red-baiting and stereotyping. Human Rights promotion requires an even and honest hand. Otherwise it risks exactly what you are doing (attempting to resolve one issue by increasing general hostility and misunderstanding). All rights have to be respected.

Of course you likely don't want to believe it, but Russians are one the the most discriminated against people in the world. The cold war is over, but the hatred created by it lives on, and since the country was often used by countries internally to bolster politicians popularity.

Russian Americans are discriminated against. I have seen it. And I know many people that are bigoted against them, though Russian Americans have nothing to do with Russia other than that they have family there.

That same thing happens throughout the world. Innocent Russians are used by countries as a "boogyman" because of all the disinformation during and after the cold war.

There is no major western media outlet that provides even a single program from the perspective of Russians and in fact they often distort the culture. In that climate of course they are going to spend a lot of airspace presenting their view of things.

8. I will ask again, have you ever posted a positive about the Russian people?

Bigotry often disguises itself. Bigots are generally not aware and almost always think that their viewpoints are not intolerant.

Folks that hated the Japanese used WWII against Japanese Americans who did not have anything to do with what Japan did.

The folks who do not distinguish between the muslim religion and extremist sects and persecute or harass the general Muslim population think the same. They use what is definitely a serious problem, extremism, to broad brush the entire culture. But they have no concept that what they did is wrong.

That's the classic example of the "loaded question" logical fallacy you are engaged in. I won't fall for it. I'm not the one who needs to explain myself, you are. Are you for dictatorship? For the anti-gay laws? For the closing of every independent media outlet? For throwing Pussy Riot in prison for singing a song?
