Who The Heck Is David Brat? (The man who beat Eric Cantor in the primary.)

Who The Heck Is David Brat? Brat lays it out in this video. With his "five" principles and some reflexive religious references.

I was expecting him to look like these guys

With Cantor of the left and Brat on the right But he looks rational until he starts to talk.

The youtube video is stuttering for me. Also posted at the Washington Post site. I could only get the video to play in chrome on the Washington Post site. A bit better audio on the Washington Post site.

at best.

His religious comments will appeal to the Christian voters in his district and get them out to the polls. Democrats are unlikely to vote for him anyway.

Note that I am not degrading Democrats who don't believe in God in any way. I'm just pointing out an obvious truth. Also listening to all the talking heads on TV taking about the election, it does seem his win was almost a miracle somewhat like the Biblical tale of David and Goliath. I doubt if Brat himself ever expected that he would win.

3. I worried because he is photogenic, and it's not like people listen to the politicians these days.

At least no the low information one, and face it the low information voters are still the majority.

4. well, Cantor was the biggest roadblock on the team, so swapping one for one may not be a sea change

if nothing else, his Laura Ingaraham associations, et al, mark him as damaged goods in moderate's eyes... perhaps they'll side with the Democrat anonymously in the voting booth

The right-wing base is figuring out that for the "elites", money equals speech, and they seem not-at-all-fond of that idea.
Once again, Publicly-Funded Elections are the finish line, and the first team (Dem or GOP) to cross it will set the course of National policy for the next half-century.

Here's our Golden Ticket, though..The GOP Leadership knows full-well (even if the base only suspects) that if the base gets what they want (I.E., corporate money does NOT equal speech) that the GOP is demographically screwed. The RNC Types CAN'T allow it to happen, no matter how much their base screams for their heads; they know it will be their party's doom.

THAT'S our wedge. That's our advantage. Their party leadership CANNOT listen to the Party voters. All we need do now is actually BE THE Social and Economic Liberals we claim as our party's Heritage, and the corporate neo-cons of America will be rightly and forever screwed.

(ON EDIT) If this guy doesn't get CRUSHED in the General Election, it will be because the Democratic Candidate simply doesn't know what their doing. In 5 minutes, any one of us could likely just destroy this poor fucker in a debate, with nothing more than the GOP's own on-the-voting-record history.

"Fiscal Responsibility? 2 wars on the National Credit Card, what say you to THAT? One of which was the result of a disinformation and Propaganda Campaign waged upon the American People, and that resulted in numerous violations of the Geneva Conventions?"

"President BlackCommunist"

"Nice. I just LOVE It when deficits only matter when the President ISN'T a Republican."

Yeah, that's what I thought.

8. Another Paul Ryan?

Brat is an Ayn Rand extremist who wants to deny any kind of immigration reform and repeal Obamacare. Although he has a divinity degree, he sounds more like a fundamentalist, and like Paul Ryan, he's Catholic. A much better choice would be his opponent, Dr. Jack Trammell, also a professor (sociology) at Randolph Macon, who gets a higher rating from students there. He heads up the disability program at the college, has written many books, and he and his wife have 7 children. His family came here in the 17th century, and he's a historian. Very interesting fellow who says that Virginians are ready for radical change--someone who actually represents them!
