Already, in the Eleventh Edition, we're not far from that point. But the process will still be continuing long after you and I are dead. Every year fewer and fewer words, and the range of consciousness always a little smaller. Even now, of course, there's no reason or excuse for committing thoughtcrime. It's merely a question of self-discipline, reality-control. But in the end there won't be any need even for that.
The Revolution will be complete when the language is perfect. Newspeak is Ingsoc and Ingsoc is Newspeak,' he added with a sort of mystical satisfaction. 'Has it ever occurred to you, Winston, that by the year 2050, at the very latest, not a single human being will be alive who could understand such a conversation as we are having now?'
'Except-' began Winston doubtfully, and he stopped. It had been on the tip of his tongue to say 'Except the proles,' but he checked himself, not feeling fully certain that this remark was not in some way unorthodox.
Syme, however, had divined what he was about to say. 'The proles are not human beings,' he said carelessly. 'By 2050 earlier, probably -- all real knowledge of Oldspeak will have disappeared. The whole literature of the past will have been destroyed. Chaucer, Shakespeare, Milton, Byron -- they'll exist only in Newspeak versions, not merely changed into something different, but actually changed into something contradictory of what they used to be.
Even the literature of the Party will change. Even the slogans will change. How could you have a slogan like "freedom is slavery" when the concept of freedom has been abolished? The whole climate of thought will be different. In fact there will be no thought, as we understand it now. Orthodoxy means not thinking -- not needing to think. Orthodoxy is unconsciousness.'
~George Orwell, 1984

Seriously. This is such an obvious hit-piece.

(27,137 posts)It hits directly upon TRUTHS that you'd apparently prefer not to hear. And that you know you won't hear anywhere in the MSM.

Exactly. No research. Just sit up and try to fit in; all day long. (some do here)

(8,821 posts)But I doubt if it will change many minds around here. Too many people are in love with hating Russia. As long as they get their kicks from bashng President Putin and his country, no facts or logic will sway them. It's seems to almost be a kind of high for them.

(27,137 posts)Some laugh at TeaBaggers and their climate change denials, while holding tightly to their own prejudices as if they're the rational ones. It's clear that some cannot fathom a world without using an adversary as the impetus for our actions.

(2,979 posts)I am a card carrying progressive, but because I don't buy into the Kremlins propaganda, I'm now a steroid and heroin using flag-waving jingoist??
Fuck you.
DeSwiss
(27,137 posts)...doesn't make one a progressive. Just someone with a card that says that word on it. A real-world example would be: To say that a card saying ''Third-way Democrat'' makes one a ''Democrat.'' Nothing could be further from the truth. They're just someone using the word to achieve ends that run totally counter to the purpose of that party's existence. For the people, not for the corporations.
So you say it is the Kremlin's propaganda RT is reporting here on Putin's orders? Hillary's own recorded words being played back now, is somehow a plot against her hatched by Putin? How imaginative. Could be true I suppose. I mean I'm sure Putin lies awake at night worrying what Hillary's going to do next.
Oh, btw, no one called anyone a user of any drugs. He said, ''almost'' -- that's not the same as ''is.'' (You should do some work on your tenses).
- And you need to edit your post, because your last words aren't allowed here in that context when directed at someone.....
Have a nice day!

Someday, the Supreme Court should explain the difference between a campaign donation and a bribe.
Or not.
DeSwiss
(27,137 posts)With a campaign donation to a ''Statesman'' -- there's no quid pro quo. Politicians who take bribes on the other hand, are known as ''quid pro quo hos.''
- The difference is subtle, I know. But that's the beauty of conservatism, you don't sweat the crap that doesn't effect you personally since you have no moral compass......

(8 posts)RT just reported the facts on Hillary's record. Hillary is a corporatist warmongering conservative. If you want more of our precious children to die in foreign lands, more power given to wall street, more bloated military budgets then by all means vote for Hillary. Hopefully a progressive Democrat will run so all this Hillary nonsense will evaporate to the ether.
DeSwiss
(27,137 posts)...is we ain't got any of it. Not since the SCOTUS Coup of 2001.
TPTB have anointed Hils for the job. She waited her turn like a good girl and she will be rewarded. Otherwise the whole system will breakdown. And that's the point really. They need someone in the WH they can count on because its all about smoke & mirrors and always has been. But everyone can see behind the masks now.
But no one wants to give up the game because what? Chaos? Hell no. So we wait, and hope and play with the machine and pull its levers to make it roll all cherries or all oranges or all whatever! Just anything that's better than what we got! But unlike Vegas' one-arm variety where you at least have a chance at winning, these levers are all fashioned on Wall Street.
- And like their profit margins, they know how much to tweak it to make it payoff -- for them.
And welcome to DU.....

(429 posts)This should be seen by every so-called progressive/liberal out there. I have been saying this (though not as well) for some time now and I only wish everyone would see this. Elect a woman? I'm all for it, just not this one....How about Elizabeth Warren???? She's my first choice for President!
DeSwiss
(27,137 posts)I'm not an advocate of our current system of governance as I would prefer a resource-based economy and I hope that is the direction in which we move. Capitalism and the perversions it perpetrates daily upon all peoples and governments of the world, is the force behind most of the evil perpetrated in the world. I believe we need a paradigm shift to a totally new system that removes selfishness and greed from the decision-making process. The so-called justifications for it are total BS.
- And I can think of no woman who would be a better change agent than Elizabeth Warren. I believe she gets it.....
ProudToBeBlueInRhody
(16,399 posts)Wow. Why hasn't FOX hired her (aside from she's not blonde)? She's clearly angry that such a powerful woman like Hillary might give Komrade Shorty Putin fits.

(30,058 posts)Hillary is a chief backer of women's rights and equal pay to women and when she is able to receive compensation for her speaking to different groups she has taken the pay. I doubt if there are lots of those speaking against Hillary but would be more than happy to jump in and take the money. Does any of those wishing for their activist dreams have the kind of money to give to hear someone speak? I hear over and over about Hillary being close to Wall Street but have yet to hear anyone jump up and say they will furnish the funds for a run to the presidency.
lostincalifornia
(3,639 posts)one of her worst decisions. How she would work to open relations with Cuba, how she believes that the environment is one of the biggest issues facing the world, and that something must be done regarding global warming.
It is just women's rights and equal pay for equal work she is for, it applies to everyone.
The problem here at DU is not that people should back their preferential candidate, but once the primaries have decided on the nominee there are those who say they won't vote if the candidate is Hillary.
Is there that lack of critical thinking on DU that they do not see the difference between Hillary and any of the republican nominees?
I don't think so, I believe without a doubt the vast majority on DU will vote for the Democratic nominee

(135,425 posts)But here's what that garbage source unintentionally is saying:
If Putin doesn't like her, that means she's the BEST thing for this country! He wouldn't diss her so hard, and so unprofessionally, if he were not really, REALLY a-skeered of her!
Thanks for the endorsement, Vlad!

Lame ass mutha--the "blue scary face" is an especially hackneyed touch. But of course, Putin's crew has all the subtlety of a Mack truck. It's sort of like the twisted offspring of Karl Rove and FauxSnooze...some woman substituting "legs" for content, and SCARY fact-free reportage.
Let's see a report on Vladdie Boy's million dollar watch collection--amazing how a guy could amass such a massive grouping on the salary (cough, choke, laugh) he supposedly "makes" every year. One would suspect he gets a five fingered discount, or he helps himself to samples from the treasury!
I'd rate this entire effort as an especially big FAIL. Certainly not worthy of DU.
