(4,437 posts)early 50's originally. Sorry. Didn't feel like listening to this guy. It's been awhile since I read it, but I have been talking about it every chance I get here and many other places. If you have the guts, go to your browser and click on one or all of the links and check out what your government has been doing to you and your children. This is no bs. No wonder Americans can't compete with the rest of the world. You are being brainwashed and taught only what they want you to know, true or not, and to do only what you're told to do in the way you're told to do it or there will be consequences. You are a pawn in the corporate, political and criminal very dangerous game of chess. Check it out....the Deliberate Dumbing Down of America. Read the whole plan if you can read. They don't want you to be able to vote in your own best interest. They want to keep things as they are....you too dumb to realize what's going on. They are using you and couldn't care any less about your or your children's future. Read it if you care about this country.

(10,494 posts)Ironically, we spend about $50,000 per year per prisoner to lock them up when most are in jail because we didn't spend enough ($3,000 per year) to properly educate them growing up. That's about the dumbest thing I have ever seen!

(5,069 posts)the teaching of the sciences in the south, and this is more than just a recent (since Ronald Reagan) phenomenon.
Most recently I find troubling the erosion of critical thinking in the US education system - this includes the humanities as well as the sciences. Part of this reason is the corporatization of the public school system where students are taught subjects to get jobs in the job market (specifically, to uncritically support neo-liberalism and to become cogs in the wheel) rather than knowledge and love of learning.....the reality TV shows are also problematic because they provide a false sense of empowering democracy through the vote.
Anti-intellectualism is and has been ubiquitous in American society - why our culture ridicules nerds - why Al Gore and Adlai Stevenson were stigmatized for being intellectuals.....Amerikuns have never valued learning other languages while they can barely speak and write Inglish.....the list goes on of examples.....
