People want to think that terrorists are utterly unlike them. So they imagine that terrorists are all non-white, non-Christian, etc. And, because of confirmation bias, the only ones people remember are the ones that fit that preconception. Your media, which has evolved into a mechanism for viewers to validate their pre-existing beliefs, reinforces this.

With relish. And without hesitation. Because that's what they ARE. I think it's something we ALL should start doing.

One of the conservative bloggers that I frequently criticize uses a capital letter in order to be more provocative. He even has referred to the war on terror as being perpetrated by the Terrorist Political Party.

I honestly don't think the media refrains from calling them terrorists because of their race (not all of them at least).. rather because news media outlets don't want to label right wingers terrorists.. out of fear of public backlash from right wingers... plus it helps that most media millionaires/billionaires are right wingers themselves..

I do think think also that they find the spooky "other" caricature useful to bait low information individuals whose brains smoke when they try to process nuance.

"Terrorist" is a fairly recent coining. Formerly, we called partisans, guerrillas, and other ad-hoc groups opposing us things like "bandits," "criminals," "thugs," etc. The meaning was the same, but by now most of the white people have fallen in line with their overlords, so it is mostly brown people who are fighting us.

Although IIRC, the IRA used to be called "terrorists" in the earlier years of the 20th century. (Not according to Rep. Peter King, of course)
