The real cave has been closed to the public, as the collective breath of thousands of tourists was destroying the fragile paint.
But, the life-size mock-up is perfect in every way. Absolutely stunning and unforgettable. Love of and reverence for beauty are ancient and long-enduring human traits.

Lascaux is only 3-4 hours southwest by train. And it's situated in the gorgeous region of the Périgord--always worth the trip, if only for the fantastic food.
