(58 posts)That is why I laugh at the futility of the Browns. That was an illegal sack even in the 70s. What you don't show is that Mean Joe Greene and the Pittsburgh defense punished the s#$% out of the Browns and their paltry offense after that.
Typical Cleveland sports fan... "Remember that time we almost beat a team that was kinda good??"
I live in Cleveland now, so I see all of you mopey Browns fans all of the time. Hey!!! Why don't you draft a quarterback again?? 3rd (or 11th) time is the charm, right??
What's that??? I'm sorry. I was just admiring the Rooney family's 6 Lombardi trophies. Hey... How many you got in Cleveland???
Yes!!! The Rooney family. Liberal, Irish, Catholic, Philanthropic, Diplomats.
Who own's the Cleveland Clowns??? Oh, yeah... Jimmy Haslem... under investigation for fraud. Truck stop Mogul. Bush Pioneer. Full fledged TEA Bagger and full time asshole.

(58 posts)He does work for FOX. He was always kind of the "Aw Shucks" southern boy, like Bret Favre, etc.
I don't doubt that Bradshaw is a Douchebag. Lynn Swann is a Republican't. Franco Harris, John Stalworth both active Democrats.

(1,151 posts)One of the greatest QBs of all time. He played like a house on fire, he never quit. You break up the play, cover his WO and runs around till he finds a guy. Great player. And I love him on sunday football, but hes kinda a little Yogi Berra.
That hit was not as bad as it looked, you can see him use his elbow to contact the ground first. I love that clip.I should make it my sig !

(14,779 posts)I like Bradshaw's comment on Gilliam, the first starting African American Quarterback in the NFL:
Gilliam battled heroin, cocaine, and alcohol addiction all of his life, he was clean for the three years before his death in 2000. When Gilliam was off the drugs and Alcohol, he was by far the better Quarterback, but drugs and alcohol did him in. What a waste.

(14,779 posts)What I mean by "Which Terry Bradshaw", Bradshaw can be said to have two careers as Quarterback. The first was the first two Super bowl the Steelers won, these were won by the Pittsburgh Defense, more then anything else. Bradshaw did enough to win the games, but that is all that was expected of him, the Pittsburgh Defense in those first two Super bowls was that overwhelming. Bradshaw with Franco Harris was good enough of an offense to score some points, which in most cases was enough to win the game given the strength of the Pittsburgh Defense.
Now the second two Super bowls were another story. The Pittsburgh Defense of the early 1970s had aged and was NOT as good as it had been in the first two Super bowls. Furthermore the rules were changed that hampered the Defense and let Quarterbacks take more chances. Into this new environment entered the Steelers under Bradshaw, and it is this later stage of his years of being a quarterback that he became the great quarterback that people remember. Bradshaw to Lynn Swann or John Stallworth (With occasionally passes to Franco Harris and other members of the Steelers Offense) won those last two Super bowls. The Defense was still good, but it was not the Steel Curtain in had been in the first two Super bowl (This also reflected the rules changes that favored the offense).
Thus if you are looking at the Terry Bradshaw of the first two Super bowls, he was an adequate quarterback. As I mentioned early in 1974 the Steelers thought John Gilliam was the better quarterback, till Gilliam's addictions caught up with him. On the other hand, the second two Super bowls were Bradshaw's to win or lose. Bradshaw had to do an excellent job for the Steelers to , which he did.
Yes, Bradshaw's numbers are not good on their face, but he made the critical passes when they were needed and in many ways that is more important then Statistics. As one observer commented, the only stat that really counts is how many Super bowl rings was he entitled to wear? Four, that is more then any other quarterback of his time period.

(4,079 posts)...but that's just because I grew up in Texas and was a Roger Staubach fan. However, I've heard him say so much stupid shit over the years, that I think my original opinion might hold.

(58 posts)Staubauch, America's boy, on the self-proclaimed "America's Team"??? Staubauch folded like paper as soon as he was confronted with the Steelers' defense. Staubauch, Navy officer school, assigned to out-of-theatre supply job that didn't interfere with his "Future Football Career". He is now an avid Republican with racist TEA Bagger tendencies.
F#@$ Staubauch!!! Guy couldn't take a hit anyhow.

(4,079 posts)If you'll notice, I was writing in the past tense. Frankly I couldn't have told you if Staubach was even still alive, but I'm not surprised that he's a 'bagger, with his Navy background.
But, hey, at the height of his career I was about ten years old, so don't ask me whether or not he could "take a hit". All I knew was that my father, mother, and three brothers were Cowboy fans, so I was too. (Actually, my dad hated Roger Staubach, but he was still a Cowboys fan.)
My dislike of Terry Bradshaw came long after his football career, once he started opening his amazingly stupid pie hole. Hell, he and Staubach probably take each other to lunch these days.

(58 posts)I don't at all care for Bradshaw. I'm glad he helped my team win in the 70s. But he was always weird in political ways AND he was probably an abusive husband, seeing how his 1st marriage blew up.
My visceral reaction was to some sniveling Browns fan laughing about that hit. I remember that hit!!! Turkey Jones should have been suspended for that hit. And the Browns new ownership is totally TEA Bagging, so F@#$ 'Em!!!
And DO I have to explain anymore about the Dallass Cryboys. The self-proclaimed America's Team, even before they won anything.
The political edge to this thread is clear. Bradshaw is a douchebag!! But, you are right that it is pretty inconsequential.
Screw Bradshaw!!!
