(10,494 posts)This has become a sad, surreal country. It is ridiculous that the Republicans can oppose everything Obama does to the point of being silly as this is. The media will report their stupid shit as if it is a valid point of view, when they are not starting it themselves. The RW media has used our airwaves to brainwash and misinform Americans. Now the Republicans have purity tests which prohibit their politicians from doing anything approaching compromise or being reasonable, even if they want to.
Our country is literally run by the Plutocrats now, with only an appearance of Representative Democracy and that facade is starting to fade. How anyone other than John Roberts cannot see that massive campaign contributions to get or keep candidates in office will not obligate the politician to do the bidding of their benefactors to continue to get the money and stay in office is beyond me!
How anyone in their right mind believes this crazy stuff is also beyond me. At some point I think my RW, former friends would look at something like this and say "Whoa, stop, that is a bridge too far! I wonder what other shit they have been saying is false?" As well as asking themselves "Why are they saying this to me?" But no, they won't ever stop to even consider that they are being sold a load of crap, they enjoy attacking Libs and Obama too much to realize that they are the Dupes!

(10,494 posts)What I meant to ask was, "Have WE, meaning us Progressives/Liberals/Democrats had enough of this crap to start a movement similar to OWS, with the express purpose of getting the money out of our political system?"
I don't pretend it would be easy because it would not be, but it is doable! I am encouraged by what our side has done in Vermont and California with the Article V Constitutional Amendment, but disappointed that they seem to stop at overturning Citizen United and "money is not speech." Half measure will allow the Plutocrats to keep control, just make it a little harder. We need Publicly Funded Elections and COMPLETE Campaign Finance Reform.

(57,305 posts)During the 2012 Republican primary, Ablow wrote a column arguing that Newt Gingrich's three marriages actually made him more qualified to be president. He wrote: "When three women want to sign on for life with a man who is now running for president, I worry more about whether well be clamoring for a third Gingrich term, not whether well want to let him go after one." The column was criticized, with Rod Dreher of The American Conservative commenting thusly: "Oh for fracks sake. At some point, you have to wonder when shamelessness crosses the line from character defect to psychopathology. If only Dr. Leo Spaceman were a Republican, he could have a lucrative career on Fox."

(5,275 posts)His rant was ridiculous. That said I'm one who finds that the appeal of soccer eludes me. If true believers wanted another sport to thrive here I would have preferred lacrosse or Australian Rules Football - you know, not just kicking a ball up and down a field all day using just half your limbs.
I did see we advanced by losing, nice.

(21,925 posts)Either he's completely out of his mind or just extremely challenged for new ideas to talk about. If it's the second, this is really saying a lot about how dumb he thinks Fox viewers are and how they will buy anything as long as it's anti-Obama, like space aliens coming down in the night to program certain Americans to support Obama.

(362 posts).... the entire world is beholden to Obama. In some respects, this is true.. We have traveled a good bit in the last ten years or so and have failed to find anyone who doesn't think Obama is a better choice than Bush. Western Europeans think the GOP is insane and even "second world" countries know a lot about us. A linen store owner in Spain said " they hate him because he's black". A Colombian on a cruise laughed about their climate denial. Several Canadians on a tour of China wondered where Americans get their ideas about the health care system.
WE haven't lost the respect of the world, but they are bewildered about the current political climate
