Basically we'd be a bigger Canada. Fewer wars, less gun violence and people dying from preventable diseases.
And slavery would have been abolished in the 1830s without a civil war.

(9,895 posts)A civil war that is STILL being fought nearly 150 years later...the GOP and its neon-confederacy were the first ones to start mumbling about Secession back when Perry and Jindal thought they could out crazy each other, but the divisions since then have only deepened and show little to no signs of abatement.

to say that the southern 'colonies' would have voluntarily turned away from slavery as the bedrock of their economic system. In this alternative history exercise, I believe there still would have been a war if Mother England had attempted to end slavery.

(113 posts)...by the British govt. That's why there was no revolt in the British empire when slavery ended. They were actually paid higher than market value.
