Cenk Uygur Explains How The NRA Represents The Gun MANUFACTURERS, Not The Gun Owners.

It’s an old video (ie-probably ten mass shootings ago) but still very true. It’s one of my favorite Cenk Uygur pieces for two reasons.

First, this video shows how lawmakers SHOULD treat gun nuts. A group of heavily armed gun nuts push their way into the office of Texas lawmaker Poncho Nevarez (D) and tell him he “won’t be around very long” if he doesn’t vote for an open carry bill. Despite being outnumbered and heavily outgunned, he treats them like the assholes they are, and tells them to take a hike. Man, if only 1/10th of the U.S. Congress had the kind of guts that this guy exhibited, we wouldn’t be in this mess! This guy stood up to crackpots who were CARRYING guns. Congressmen in Washington shit their pants when people even MENTION guns.

Second, after Cenk Uygur explains that the NRA tried to push a bill in Michigan that would have made it legal for people who’d been convicted of DOMESTIC VIOLENCE and/or STALKING to buy and carry concealed guns, he explains the obvious. Namely, that the NRA DOES NOT represent gun owners.

“The NRA does not represent GUN OWNERS. The NRA represents THE GUN MANUFACTURERS. And it is in the gun manufacturers best interests to make sure that lots of bad guys have access to lots of guns, because then the good guys feel more insecure, and buy more guns too! Because ‘the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun; so you all buy more guns, and we make more money!”
