(57,936 posts)all the TV stars like Ellen Degeneres who earn substantial salaries plus income from appearances about the likely higher taxes they will have to pay if Bernie becomes president.
More of their income will become subject to payroll taxes for Social Security, and slightly more to pay for things like family leave.
What no one ever thinks about is the price we pay because we pay as a nation don't have decent Social Security benefits, family leave and healthcare insurance for all.
We pay in terms of social problems, child neglect, a poorly educated workforce, high emergency medical costs, unhealthy people.
We all pay. They pay with us.
Penny wise. Pound foolish.

So trenchant. I have some but clearly not enough of his work, this inspires me to get me to the library and read me some Wilde.

(9,110 posts)It's just like when you fall in love. I watched and heard Bill say exactly what I feel and I'm no where near rich. I've just been around for 68 years and have seen way too many hearts be broken when not all fall in love like you do.
Maher and my concerns are that if Bernie doesn't win the nomination that you won't vote for Hillary. Think Notorious RBG. When she retires, we need another Dem appointed justice to just keep a bit of balance on the Supreme Court.
Think Global Warming. Think your most important issues and imagine any of those people in the Republican field in the Oval Office.

(631 posts)Unless this nominee is able to GOTV among the 40% of eligible voters who rarely bother to vote, the Democratic nominee will lose.
Hillary can Calculate, Articulate, and Prevaricate.
She has yet to show that she can MOTIVATE
any new voters.

(57,936 posts)He especially really did not do what was needed about climate change.
His stances on welfare, on the financial sector (repeal of Glass-Steagall), telecommunications consolidation and on and on did not protect or serve our country.
A vote for Hillary is not that much better than a vote for a Republican.
i will not vote for Hillary.
If she is nominated, our country is lost.

(9,110 posts)Their Party is lost. Aim for that and prevent the election of their nominee.
uring an interview with The Washington Examiner, Priebus said:
However, I think that we have become, unfortunately, a midterm party that doesnt lose and a presidential party thats had a really hard time winning, Priebus said. Were seeing more and more that if you dont hold the White House, its very difficult to govern in this country especially in Washington D.C.
So I think that I do think that were cooked as a party for quite a while as a party if we dont win in 2016. So I do think that its going to be hard to dig out of something like that, Priebus told the Examiner. I dont anticipate that. I think
history is on our side."

(631 posts)I agree that Bernie does not do this enough. Potentially an American version of Democratic Socialism (AKA FDR Democracy) could work better here than in Scandanavia.
We can be the world leaders of innovation, new ideas, good jobs and still have great healthcare for all, and an educated workforce, without childhood poverty or mass incarceration. Democratic Socialism will enhance American capitalism at the small business scale because an educated, well-fed, and healthy citizen can also be a fearless innovator who takes advantage of the multitudes of technologies that become more accessible every day.
A participating citizen is an empowered citizen.

(57,936 posts)can't get it because she can't find a doctor she can communicate with so that she can understand what the surgery is about listed under her health insurance provider.
We should be able ot go to any doctor we want, and our single payer insurance should pay the going rate for our surgery and health care.
The system we now have is horrible.
We could be far more innovative. We are so cramped up with our worship of private, for-profit enterprise that we are inflexible and rigid in so many areas.
Doctors should be able to take a much wider selection of patients than they now can with our insurance system. And every person who walks in their door should be insured.
We could still give people the choice to pay extra for private insurance if they absolutely want it. But we should, most of us, have an insurance system in which we don't have so much red tape and difficulty getting access to doctors we want.
I realize this is not such a problem in small towns and rural areas in which maybe the choice of doctors is very limited. But in big cities, this is a problem. Your doctor has to be able to deal with your insurance company.

(23,946 posts)that do need to be solved, as correctly pointed out by Sanders, and many others?
The first question has to be answered first.
Where these question as posed by Maher answered satisfactorily?
A good starting point would be to embrace the Democratic Party's Progressive Caucus budget...it's all in there.
The People's Budget I am all in for:

"This is like airplane food. Sometimes you don't get what you want! You order the fish, they're out, and all you can get is chicken. Take the chicken!"
It's a Democratic plane. Don't bail out of the plane 'cause you didn't get the fish!
Take the chicken!
