Ben Carson -- Is It Possible To Be Very Smart and Very Stupid At The Same Time?

Ben Carson is still looking strong in the GOP race, which is amazing considering his constant spewing of nonsense and bigotry. But what else can we expect from the Republican base? And while Ben Carson may have been a great doctor, he has proven that his intelligence may be limited to only brain surgery.

He became a complete religious zealot. He believes he can stop Armageddon. The steady stream of nonsense no rational person would say continues unabated.

I'm beginning to think he might have had a psychotic break. His profession certainly supplied enough stress for one.

Something happened to the man. This kind of nutcase could never have gotten into medical school, let alone through it.

Really? I actually don't believe it's possible to be as ignorant as he seems to be and have what it takes to qualify for that position. Just can't do it.

There must be more to that story.

It baffles me that a Black person would be a member of a party that is caters to racists and openly passes laws that are absolutely designed to restrict the voting rights of their fellow citizens. I can only suppose that they are in reality opportunists who know that their membership will be exploited to cover the Republican Party's attempt to not only disenfranchise their fellow citizens but to strip any programs that would provide assistance to those in need. Their motto is discriminate against them, keep them disadvantaged and then starve them to death. I absolutely no use for bastards like him.

the Republicans are going to look good to you because your eye will be on fundy heaven, not earthly riches.

Remember, a lot of people vote for those assclowns because they're trying to avoid hell and because they think god loves antiabortionists and gay bashers.

And yet, WITH that list of looney-toon ideas, he has a significant following. Maybe - just MAYBE..... he's transcended physical brain surgery to the point that he lobotomizes folks virtually. Sorta like ESP, if you will.

I understand he's taken a break from campaigning to do a book tour. Maybe it's to push the tome: Carson's for Dummies

If the GOP is full of Racists, how can they accept Ben Carson? They hated Obama, mostly because he was black. How is Ben Carson going to be any different? Do they truly say, "Well this is our Black man, and its different."? Is that hypocritical? I don't get this at all.. Do they think he will be their puppet? I truly don't understand their thinking at all.

spend a lot time teaching you about history, social sciences, civics, etc. We have a lot of people today that learn about their individual job and do not get further education in a lot of things we used to be required to learn.

Dr. Carson is probably a brilliant doctor in his particular field but has not spent a lot time learning anything else he would need to be president of the USA.

what they really entail. Surgeons are a prime example: If you look at a surgeon as a highly skilled mechanic, then you're likely to get close to understanding the disconnect. Carson's first book was title "Gifted Hands" for a reason, because that's what he has. It wasn't titled "Gifted Mind".

Where Carson excelled was in the cutting and in creating techniques that made the "cutting" more effective and efficient. He is not nor has he ever been a scientist.

Most wouldn't be surprised to hear if a premier aeronautical engineer also had funny beliefs about evolution, the age of the earth or the end-times. Similarly, we shouldn't be surprised when a surgeon (no matter how acclaimed) holds like beliefs; because the nature of their expertise is akin to that of the engineer and does not require the questioning, hypothesizing and respect for the scientific method and peer review that all scientists must at the very least acknowledge.

Excellent. I worked in chemical physics for many years, and I was often astonished that other scientists were full of nutsy ideas in politics and crazy about simple things about how sex and pregnancy actually works.

I mentioned on one occasion that a miscarriage or stillbirth was a "spontaneous abortion" [the physics was about MRI], and then the shouting started.

Carson isn't just some eccentric savant who needs help getting dressed in the morning. I think Carson is an authentic lunatic who poses a very real danger to this country. The fact that he can attract the sort of public support and money he does, is a genuinely alarming matter.

It's called 'book smart'. He only knows what he's been taught out of text books. He has no knowledge of practical life experiences unless he has encountered it in a text book. Not an ounce of common sense.

logical reasoning, no matter how flawless, can do anything other than lead to the madhouse.

Keynes made that point after reviewing a book by Hayek, who admired Keynes no end. A great prophet, Keynes, at least in economic matters. He said that one day, it would come down to a great battle between the banks and the people.

. . . that the kind of intelligence needed to be a good physician or surgeon is of an entirely different type from that needed to be a good political leader.
