I think he made the right decision.
The first third of the speech sounded like an endorsement of Sanders although I am sure for the sake of political correctness, Biden will endorse Hillary to his regret.
I disagreed with one thing and that was his statement about partisan politics. It's very ugly, but we have to accept it for what it is. As long as the Limbaughs of the world have the ears of so many, many Americans partisanship is going to be very ugly. I used to have hope that it could change, but the way that Republicans have treated Obama taught me that we should not hold our breath.
We have to work with the ugly partisanship that exists because that is the reality and it won't change until we defeat the Republican anti-government, anti-American rhetoric as well as all their war mongering and betrayal of the middle class and poor.
The Obama administration has made its mistakes. That is inevitable. No one is perfect. No president is perfect. Obama has tried to hard to work with wealthy interests in our country. He compromised too much in his appointments and in many other ways with those interests hoping to win them over. That does not work. As I explained yesterday, it is the duty of corporations to serve their shareholders. Any service to the public has to be limited ot what helps shareholders. Shareholders are the owners and that is as it should be. But we should not expect the corporations to look out for the interests of all of us. That is not their job. It is not their job to worry about the problems of the middle class as a class.
I would love to see Biden work in the area of funding and organizing cancer research. Some years ago I did quite a bit of research on the latest in cancer research. (It was part of my job at the time -- as I have said, my work life has been extremely varied.) That was not so long ago, and the scientists and reporters were optimistic thinking that we would be able to "cure" if that is the right word and I'm not sure it is cancer or deal with it in a positive way within a short time. Of course cancer is a word that covers a lot of different conditions and diseases, but our understanding of cell structure is growing quickly and as Biden said we are on the verge of great discoveries that could help mankind in that area.
I look forward to Biden's continued selfless dedication to the American people.
I totally agree with Biden about America's assuming a more limited role in terms of policing the world. After WWII, we were one of the few countries still standing in terms of industrial capacity and sophisticated infrastructure. Most countries had never had it. And those that had had it, in many cases, had seen it destroyed.
That is no longer the case. As Bernie has explained, we need to work toward building coalitions much more than we have in the past. And we need as Secretary of State strong coalition-builders. I think that Kerry and Obama are doing a great job now with that coalition-building. I wish the press could understand what is going on. Maybe Biden will be able to explain it to them so that they can.
