Dash cam video shows Zachary Hammond shooting

South Carolina cop who shot teen dead will not face state charges; dash cam video of Hardee’s parking lot shooting released

A South Carolina cop will not face state criminal charges for killing an unarmed teenager during an attempted drug sting in a Hardee’s parking lot.

Police released dramatic dash cam video showing Seneca Officer Mark Tiller shoot and kill 19-year-old Zachary Hammond Tuesday, the same day South Carolina Solicitor Chrissy Adams announced the state would not file charges against the cop.

The U.S. Department of Justice is still investigating the case, and federal authorities could file charges against Tiller.

...Hammond’s parents saw the video for the first time Tuesday, their attorney Ronnie Richter told the Daily News.

“It’s a very painful day for them, seeing this for the first time,” he said. “They are devastated. It’s very hard to watch — it would be for any parent, to watch your child get shot.”

Richter said the family and its legal team will continue with their own lawsuit.

never got anywhere near being in front of it. At the very most, he had reason to fear the kid running over his foot.

I never thought I'd look back on the days when cowboy cops used to shoot at tires as being the good old days, but apparently they are. These days it appears that shooting somebody dead for refusing to stop when ordered to do so is standard procedure.

Just a lonely guy at the end of the bar who keeps asking himself why did I kill that boy when I really didn't have to? It always catches up in one way or another.

(not trying to run you over...you obviously had plenty of time to back up)...how about you shoot out the tires on the car? He won't make it very far if you do that.

What is with these cops thinking that someone trying to flee the scene is deliberately trying to hit them? If the kid wanted to hit him, he would have kept turning the wheel into him.

But our kids are expendable, I guess, in the name of justice, in the war on drugs. The big for profit war on drugs.

Was it because they were wanting him to run and planning to shoot him ?
And this was over a small amount of POT ?
Was he cutting in on the cop's territory, screwing one of their daughters?

Much better for all to just walk in the pot store and choose from the wide selection. better product, state gets taxes and nobody dies.

But it is SC were republicans rant about freedom, and kill you if you do not obey.

then he might conclude that this police office did not execute Zachary Hammond...

Otherwise, one must conclude the obvious...the officer killed Hammond for no apparent reason...

Pretty clear the driver saw the cop, but still turned toward him.

The kid panicked in a high stress situation. He was a teenager making a split second bad decision.

But the professional trained adult law enforcement officer also panicked. There was no reason to fire. He was not protecting anyone. The cops knew who the kid was, they knew where he lived, they had his vehicle info and tag number. Even if he got away from them at this point, they could have easily picked him up later.

And of course, this was a victimless crime. It's not like they were after a mass shooter or armed robber. He was a teenager selling non lethal pot. Just like thousands of teenagers around the country.
