The Repub Party is not required to be responsive to the electorate as a whole. It can nominate according to the whims of a smoke-filled room, with Feng Shui, with astrology, from a coin-flip, from it's delegates, from its primary results, or any method it chooses at the convention.
There's no affront to democracy whether the Repubs nominate from a back-room Koch Bros cabal or from a 2nd amendment Drumpf convention putsch, only bad politics. Remember which party we are talking about.
Now the Dems are at risk in a similar but way. But since turnout and voter enthusiasm are keys to Dem victory, we need to hold the party's feet to fire if we see DWS's thumb on the scale. Ignoring and frustrating primary voter enthusiasm is the way to stifle Nov turnout. We need every vote to win the Presidency, the Senate, and even possibly take back the House.
Democracy needs to operate come November. We all need to be ready to participate and to protect the integrity of the vote.
