If it were based on something realistic it would just be pride, although there's a sense of lording it over others that makes arrogant pride offensive. What Trump has is an unrealistic opinion of his own self-worth, and he acts very prideful of those virtues he does not possess, like having a good brain, or being liked by Hispanics and women, or knowing more about military matters than the generals, or knowing more about foreign policy than people with lots of experience in the field, like, I don't know, a former Secretary of State.

At the very least, they are probably told to go out and be combative with the"liberal" media and treat everything they say like it's all lies, unless it agrees with the Trump narrative.
