Arizona Lawmakers React to Secular Invocation



In 2016, Arizona House of Representatives passed a rule that all official invocations must reference a “higher power.” Representative Juan Mendez offered a secular invocation with assistance from Secular Coalition for Arizona. Watch how Rep. Mendez’s colleagues reacted:

If you’re going to allow one invocation, you must allow them all. Requiring that invocations reference a “higher power” unconstitutionally privileges religious belief and excludes the 10% of Arizonans who do not believe in God.

Just invoke the "higher power" of the First Amendment and it's ban on establishment of religion...
