(86,056 posts)After I was done here I went to the other room to check for a hopeful sign of a space between clouds or just thinning clouds, I was thrilled to see that the clouds were indeed thinning and breaking up!
Instead of just getting a view to a bright, huge moon blaring in the star spangled sky, I was treated to interesting beams emanating from the clouds like searchlights seeking some object in the sky between the moon and earth. The they thinned out so it was just a veil of haze so that the moon was very clearly visible. As the eclipse really became visible, the sky cleared completely!
I got to watch until about midnight MST and then I went to bed wondering if I'd have interesting dreams.
When I awoke after daylight, there was a fresh 6" of snow on the ground, totally overcast and still snowing!
I got that perfect window through the clouds, just like I had hoped for. That was pretty cool, especially since I could watch it from the bedroom window!

(12,134 posts)I sent that to a few folks -- thanks!
Pretty good view for us here in Georgia, but it was cold as all get-out, so we checked it out every 20 minutes or so for a few minutes at a time. Amazing sight, especially through binoculars! I loved getting a sense of the three-dimensional shape as it progressed through the umbra, instead of the usual flat white disc.
I couldn't believe we didn't see any neighbors out! Hopefully they were just doing what we were doing and we popped out at different times. Beautiful sight!
