Romney: Didn't mention troops because he didn't consider them important

Here's specifically what he said (while chuckling) when asked why he didn't mention them in his acceptance speech:

When you give a speech you don't go through a laundry list, you talk about the things you think are important.

Tone-deafness confirmed.

It would sink their campaign. The media would replay it over and over, 24/7.

The best that can be said here about Romney's concern for the troops in Afghanistan and their mission, is that he is 'committed' they be part of a 'strong' military.

I expect the troops in their current situation didn't feel strengthened or committed to by this unresponsive, oh-so-campaigny answer.

Romney doesn't seem to realise he has an opportunity to be statesmanly *now* as the leader of his party, whether he gets elected or not - and that it stirs anxiety when he can't say anything about anything without a partisan shot at Obama tagged on the end.
