(16,482 posts)Over 1,000 people dying are dying a day and that adds up quickly. The rate of infection is the highest in the world. The number of deaths and cases are the highest for any given country. Trump has no idea that this is NOT under control. Rural communities are at a higher risk due to community hospitals will be overwhelmed with cases.

But more frightening is that no one is stopping him.
I fear for my country.

A wildly insecure sociopath/psychopath who happens to be PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. Nothing to worry about.

(14,516 posts)As to the books, I've read each one maybe a dozen times.
I watched this whole interview with Trump and you know what it reminded me of?
The Axios guy probably felt like Aragorn did when he was trying to interview Gollum over 'many weary hours.'
Trump is our Gollum, and the presidency is 'his precious.'

(14,516 posts)Pretty funny, but this is how Trump will be on the stand too, (if) when he goes to trial on some of the numerous charges the Mueller investigation devolved onto states Attorney Generals. Bunch of stuff still alive in NY, and Trump can call that 'fake news' as much as he wants, but that jail cell will be real.
Especially now that the Kushner news came out about why there was not a coordinated national response. That was truly despicable.

(6,427 posts)Only a true sociopath would blithely say mass needless death is just what it is.
Im sure the dead and their suffering families have a quite different and more negative opinion of that matter. What it is is horrific, but to him its just we the expendable dying.
As for his absolutely insane claim its under control this is the exact same denial of catastrophic reality that we saw depicted so masterfully in the HBO miniseries Chernobyl. The corrupt collapsing Soviet regime insisted to its people and the world that it was all under control never mind the meltdown was about to kill an entire continent. That regimes denial of reality, suppression or facts, ignoring, silencing,
and threatening scientists strenuously warning of the danger, and refusal to protect its population is exactly what this murderously incompetent cabal is doing in response to this pandemic. As a result this plague has become OUR Chernobyl and the death toll is mounting-indeed its now many times the number who died in that catastrophe, and until these people are driven from their positions of power over our lives and now deaths it will only escalate. Once they are gone they need to be held accountable for their crimes against humanity. Only then will the dead and the suffering have true justice.

(61,675 posts)A lot of young people look derisively at the former USSR because of the economics of Communism, not the actual power structure that had party pols telling scientists how to do their jobs, denying there is a problem, etc. To me, the biggest impact of the movie was in seeing how their political structure ruined critical thinking, denial of reality, etc.
The best part was the miners, I think. They were a tribe of workers willing to do what was needed.
benfranklin1776
(6,427 posts)The brilliance of the miniseries was, in part, in how it depicted the abominable manner in which life and death decisions were being made with everything focused on preserving the image of the regime and those in power with the health and welfare of the people not being of any concern. The admonition by the party apparatchik in the first episode to lie to the people and keep them in the dark about the scale of the disaster and its threat to their lives and have them focus only on their work reminded me of the rancid bleatings of the lieutenant governor of Texas the Rethuglican apparatchik Dan Patrick who was pushing to force businesses to open and herd people back to work that senior citizens will be willing to die for the economy 🤬 Thats what gives the miniseries such relevance to the current catastrophe we are experiencing as we see the EXACT same attitude being exhibited by the Trumpists who, I might add, would fit neatly into that corrupt decaying regime as they are comfortable with suppressing truth, muzzling scientists, and letting large numbers of people die in order to cling to their rapidly slipping stranglehold on power and control of we the people.
Yes I LOVED the miners! They had a tremendous spirit of selflessness and willingness to tackle the problem head on in order to save lives despite the incompetence and criminality of the regime which is the spirit we see today being exhibited by the front line health care workers dealing with the death and suffering caused by this regimes criminal mismanagement of this crisis. The leader of the miners was great wasnt he? Basically told the apparatchiks to their face dont BS me, and your threats are meaningless: Im going to protect my people and do whats best for them Exactly who you want in a leader which is in stark contrast to Mr it is what it is 🤬

(61,675 posts)trumpers sure like their daddy/dictator figure, too. They want a benevolent dictator, but they can't see thar trump is not.
benfranklin1776
(6,427 posts)And they never seem to grasp that a Benevolent dictator is an oxymoron: never has been such a thing, never will be. But I guess drinking all that bleach interferes with proper neuron functioning!

(6,448 posts)The GOP doesn't care about 1,000 Americans dying per day. This includes the Congress and the state lackeys as well.
The Democrats were fighting tooth and nail to reduce the 114 Americans dying per day before the ACA and the 94 Americans dying per day through guns.
Remind those non-voters who say there's no difference between the parties.
