It's inexcusable that it takes someone like Jon with a "name" as an advocate to get these essential services passed, but I certainly admire him for it. He could easily have sat back in retirement, but he sees a need and he's passionate about getting it done.

I was fortunate to be in his Daily Show studio audience back in 2008 and he was very kind, took audience questions before the show - and there was a woman to my right who asked about the notes he uses. And he remembered that and made a point of giving them to her after the show.

when I was at the PX in Stuttgart Germany with my military friends shopping. We went into one store before the grocery store and I saw a sign that said WIC approved.

I had to ask my friend, what does that mean?
She said it was for service members on food stamps could purchase that product.

I about blew a gasket! WTF? They have 50% or more of our national budget and they make so little they get food stamps?
OMG, what is wrong with this country? Why do you pay service members so little that they need food stamps to survive?
And now, they can't get the healthcare they need and have to prove they need it? How about they served our country and deserve anything they need or want (within reason). JFC

How can this possibly be happening, especially now when we have an all volunteer force?? And I've also seen the charities that have been started to help vets - especially those with disabilities or PTSD! Why are these necessary when they acquired these disabilities in service to this country?? Something really does need to be done to address this shameful situation. These brave souls gave everything and we owe them the best we have!
