The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsThe garbage men keep leaving large stickers on my curbside garbage
that contain a checklist of garbage violations. They check off which rule I violated, causing them not to pick up my garbage. There are about 30 rules on the sticker.
So I went to the town website to read the garbage code. There are even more rules there.
In one case, I had a garbage bag out there, containing non-food garbage...just papers and trash, etc. Before I put the bag out there, I noticed a few twigs in my driveway, and threw them in the bag before tying the bag up and putting it out on the curb.
The garbage man apparently ripped the bag open, stuck his hand inside, found the twigs (literally only a small handful), and left a sticky on it which said "no yard waste". They did not take away the bag. They left it there with a huge orange sticky on it, so all my neighbors could see it, to cause me to feel shame.
They publicly shamed me over a handful of twigs.
I feel shame.
They are stalking me.
I'm waiting for them next time. They probably put the stickies on my garbage and sit there in their truck and laugh at me. I'm going to get a video of them laughing. Then I'm going to sue their asses.
Those fuckers.

(17,410 posts)It is very dark this time of year when they pick up the garbage early in the morning.
I'm getting some night vision goggles.
They will be sorry.
I'm also going to make up a sign using florescent paint and leave it by my garbage.
The sign will say DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE FUCKING WITH?
Game on, garbage men.

Seriously, though... I am glad mine aren't so damned picky.

(15,232 posts)Maybe I can make your morning. Kids in our neighborhood are breaking into garages stealing whatever they can find. After getting broke into twice I put up an alarm and video camera. I have them on video stealing the camera out of a tree.

(17,235 posts)You obviously have been targeted by the garbage police as a flagrant garbage preparation abuser putting you at high risk for future court appearances! You should consider moving to a more garbage friendly and transformer friendly area! Have a pleasant day!

(10,134 posts)I live in a very rural area. They have no one to pick up your trash. I throw my trash in the back of my truck 2 or 3 times a week and then take it to the dump.
At the dump there are rules, at least 20, on what you can put in the dumpster, which dumpster you can put it in and how to put it in the dumpster. The first month that I went, the men in the office shack were always watching me and correcting me. But now they just watch from the shack.
I'm hoping all these rules means they are recycling the trash.

(17,085 posts)They will probably be so mad when they drop it, that they'll just leave the whole pile of trash at the end of your driveway. Really gets them going!

(9,135 posts)We have them where I live. Now we just have a huge wheeled container for recyclable material.; just throw it in willy-nilly and they grab it with the robot arm and empty it into the truck. Several years ago, however, we had green baskets, and there were rules. Lots of rules. Newspapers stacked on the bottom, cans and glass jars on top of the paper, and cardboard collapsed and put into brown paper bags on top of everything.
One day I came home at lunch and and all my neighbors' recyclablse had been picked up, but mine hadn't. I called and they sent someone out. A supervisor! He met me at the curb, inspected my basket, and informed my that a can had somehow gotten underneath the top newspaper, so they wouldn't be picking up my recyclables this week. I asked him to wait, picked up the basket, carried it to my garage and emptied it into my garbage can. I took the basket back and handed it to him as he spluttered. "Recycling is voluntary in Des Moines," I said. "I just unvolunteered."
Didn't have any problem after that.

(16,161 posts)we have big, 300 gallon containers that get all kinds of stuff tossed in them willy nilly. I mean bed frames, mattresses, kitchen sinks, concrete blocks and the truck comes twice a week and the arm comes out, picks up the can and empties into the truck.
We also have recycling containers that are supposed to be for cans, paper, cardboard, glass, but no yard waste or garbage. Once a week the truck comes by, the arm comes out, lifts the container and dumps it into the truck.
If you follow the truck to the recycling center, you will find a large building with a dozer in it pushing the stuff back and forth, back and forth as it flows out the ends of the buildings.
we don't have garbage nazis yet. But we probably will after someone in the mayors office reads this.
