(6,843 posts)I try to like it, but it pisses me off. Not the emotional response you are supposed to get from music.

(63,221 posts)Everyone has their own musical tastes, but just wondering what it is that pisses you off about it? Also, what genres do you like?
FYI, I am not challenging you, just interested as to why some people like certain types of music and not others.
I love jazz, but hate some other types of music. There are certain genres that are like nails across a chalkboard to me, but other people love them.

(6,843 posts)I hate the erratic rhythm. I hate noodling. I hate how it gets so loud then suddenly soft.
To me, it sounds like a bunch of random notes thrown out there, which to some extent it is.
I'm not much of a music lover, although strangely enough have an aptitude for it. I played several instruments in my youth and I sing well.
I have a very weak emotional response to music ,( they say this is genetic, my son has no response at all) I do like blues and classic rock as well as classical music. I prefer my music in the background.

(63,221 posts)I don't have as good a reason why I love it, I just do. I first heard it in this coffee shop I used to go to and I just felt like "This is my music!" I would ask them what they were playing and then I would go out and buy it. I think it's good that people have different tastes in things.
I also like blues, classic rock and classical music as well. However I have an extreme negative reaction to country music, hard rock and rap. Country music just makes me want to start throwing shit at the walls. I can't describe my reaction as articulately as you can. I was in the choir in school growing up, but never played an instrument. It's all about feeling to me.

(63,221 posts)Thanks for posting! I am a huge jazz fan, but completely unfamiliar with Carl Kress. This was fantastic!

(2,229 posts)I first heard of Kress last Wednesday. I have the CD set "100 Years of Jazz Guitar" and I like a lot of the older stuff. We saw Buckey Pizzarelli at Birdland in NYC three or four years ago then went to a bar a few doors down and watched Cleveland win the NBA championship!
What a night!
