(602 posts)When cats are bitten or pinched on the nape of the neck, they will go prone, instantly. It's a reversion back to when it was a kitten and carried by its mother. Most cats will not challenge the pinch at all, in deference to the mother it believes is holding it.
I have a beautiful older Burmese that I showed this behavior to my son recently by using a (weak) potato chip bag clip. Put it in place, and the cat will hunker down and remain still as a statue.
Very fascinating psychological conditioning.
