In 50s---religion war in OK on Saturday OU played Notre Dame. Massive # Baptist and Catholic prayers

We used to say there was more prayer in OK that one Saturday than during all the rest of the year combined

Eta--In 50s seemed that most people in OK were Southern Baptists

Starting about same time or bit later OU played UT every yr for some time. I remember they played on Thanksgiving afternoon, but that may be wrong

In 50s, TX and OK were rivals in everything, as I recall.

when we'd go to Lake Texoma.

Sometimes, just to completely blow our minds, we'd visit Texarkana. We weren't even sure who to be mad at.

One of my best high school friends is still huge Boomer Sooner. Which was and still is a bold stand to take in Dallas. If we had lived in Austin he might already be shot.

BUT would defend them against any outsider. Kind of the "I can pick on my brother but you can't" deal.

I'm currently on the outs with them but that's because their coach screwed over my FSU Seminoles to get the job. (While I grew up in Dallas, I was born in Tallahassee FL where my mom and dad met and my Grandpa was getting his masters at FSU)

So I root for most of the Texas teams but not above Florida State.

Went to a church one Sunday where visiting preacher was from Norfolk VA. Barely understood a word he said. I had no idea there were so many different accents in the SE

from 1st grade (in Kentucky) through Junior high (near Dallas) and everywhere I went they said I talked funny because I mostly talked like wherever I had just come from. Although I don't think I have any accent at all. My littlest half-brother, who was born and lived in Charlotte NC all his life sounds way different from my other two younger brothers who mostly grew up in TX.

And then there's my friends from Immokalee FL lol. Yeah, if southerners can figure out a goofier way to say something, they will.
