He gave, history, mixed with verse, mixed with meaning, and on top it all gave it nice composition.

It makes me think of Rodgers and Hammerstein all within the same person.

It's all rhythm. It works if you're fine with that, and it's fun going through all the references over the years.

But yeah, wish it had just a bit more melody to it...
