But one is moving in next door when the virus allows ER doc and his wife to live in the same place again.

(60,010 posts)I could watch it all day.
I did not know till recently there is a Welsh sheepdog ( collie is Scotch for sheepdog}
A key difference is Border collies do that lying down/creeping bit while Welsh collies don't.
There are sheepdog trials, on YouTube..... Happiness.

(63,221 posts)I was able to watch a herding demonstration when I was in Ireland where one Border Collie rounded up an entire herd of sheep. She was just so focused and did an incredible job getting the herd to file into through the fence to the pasture. They just love having a job to do.

(36,818 posts)The one I have now has the strongest herding instinct. When my nephew was a toddler, she would bring him to us without scaring him. She gets more aggressive while trying to herd my Aussie, and the Aussie tolerates it to a point. The other day she literally sat on my border collie to get her to stop.

(63,221 posts)I absolutely love them, but I could never own one because I don't think I could keep up with one. They need so much activity. I am fine with long walks and trips to the park, but Border Collies need to go all day and have tasks. They are such beautiful, intelligent dogs though. Can you post a pic of your puppers?

(36,818 posts)Both of them came to us at 4yrs old from people who could no longer care for them. The border collie is 11 and the Aussie is 8. Both of these dogs need a job to do. For us it's chasing the ball. The Aussie chases the ball and brings it back. The border collie has no interest in the ball other than trying to prevent the Aussie from bringing it back and she's pretty crafty at it. I do this at least twice per day and that keeps them both under control the rest of the time.
Here is the border collie.
Here is the Aussie.
