with the usually available pots and pans? are there many ingredients? how long did it take? how long til you can drink it? Please let us know if it's good.

reason for all my questions: my son will be here for 4 days at thanksgiving and he loves beer - i thought maybe we could do this as a project while he's here. but thinking 4 days may not be long enough for beer. as you can tell i am pretty ignorant as to the ways to make a brew!

which would cost about $100. The ingredients would cost $25 - $40. The actual brewing takes about 4 hours. Unfortunately, it is not ready to drink for 4-5 weeks. You could brew it on Thanksgiving and drink it at Christma? New Years dinner though.

There's a recipe for a "porter" as well as an ale. What's the difference? Where do you get the ingredients?

It's not as heavy as a stout though. Most large communities have a brew store in the area. If you are fortunte to live in Milwaukee or the Twin Cities, Northern Brewer is a good source. They also do business on the internet and mail order. They even have a special kit made up to make these brews.

Google Northern Brewer. They are in Milwaukee and Twin Cities but they deal by mail too.

There's a typo in the recipe. Did you end up using 1 1/2 oz Fuggles Hops or just 1/2 oz?
