Drink diet sodas? Please rethink your choices: here are 7 good reasons to do so.

I like diet Coke, though I have grown to like it much less lately. Pretty much, I only like water (carbonated and flat) with lemon, tea, good beer (doesn't mean $$, just good), California red wine (all other reds give me terrible headaches) and vodka or gin tonics once or twice a year (I don't drink a lot).

Anyway. I'm trying very hard to wean myself and my husband off of diet soda, and came across this slideshow on Yahoo.

We need liberals to live long, healthy lives full of many voting cycles so quit those diet soda!

I'll have one or two a week now. Which is MUCH less than I used to drink. I didn't have a weight issue, but I do feel a lot healthier and have more energy throughout the day.

burrito, I'll fall off the wagon and have diet Coke the next time we go out, and the next, and the next... because unfortunately, a lot of places we have lunch at (Chipotle, Five Guys) don't have very good tea and I *do* get tired of water every once in a while.

But I feel much better when I don't drink it regularly.

Since I stopped drinking diet sodas, about four years ago, I haven't had any cavities. Yeah, post hoc ..., but stopping helped.

That is so absurd that you have to wonder what the author knows about anything. Increase a 24" waistline by 500%, and it's 144". No-one should anything she wrote without looking it up in a real source. I don't trust her to read or write anything correctly.

and if they're a regular part of your diet, your waistline might not expand 500%, but you probably aren't going to be as healthy as you could be. "Artificial" anything shouldn't be consumed regularly (in fact, it makes you wonder why anyone would willingly consume something described as "artificial&quot .

There is a legitimate study that reports a 5x difference in waist line increases from diet soda drinkers vs those who don't. The study was done here in Texas by one of the local universities. I don't remember which one.

I'm about 300 pounds and I drink a lot of diet Coke. Is it because of the diet Coke? No, it's because I love rich food and I consume about 3000 calories a day on average. And if I drank regular Coke like I drink diet Coke I'd probably be closer to 350.

I just remember seeing a news story about it. I suspect the study demonstrates correlative data and not necessarily causation which is implied by the author of the OP.

All natural - sweetened with stevia. When I tried it, I thought it had a weird aftertaste. Then I realized that it was regular diet with the funny taste.

It's a little pricey, but I usually manage to find a few coupons and a sale to stock up. The regular price is around $4 for a 6-pack and I get it at Target and Whole Foods.

Could be interesting. I've sort of gotten away from enjoying the flavor of 'cola', but if it's healthy, it's worth a try.

Here's what's in the grape soda:

carbonated water
erythritol
citric acid
reb a (stevia extract)
natural flavors
white grape juice concentrate

It's clear, not purple.

I'm trying to get rid of the artificial sweeteners in my diet without using a ton of sugar.

I really don't like chardonnay - too sweet/heavy for me. What do you use?

I just like seltzer with lemon juice, or maybe, if the berries are fresh, a few berries tossed into the mix.

an increase in energy or a decrease in weight since giving up soda (diet) 19 months ago.

I have one of those Brita filter water bottles, which makes my well water taste pretty good. Three 20 oz. bottles a day. I was afraid to drink that much because I already have overactive bladder, but all that water didn't really make a huge difference overall.

Every so often...like once or twice a month...I just need something with bubbles in it. I love orange soda, so a can of that is like a real treat.

Once in awhile I enjoy a can or two. I do prefer light-colored sodas more (sprite, ginger ale) and I usually drink caffeine free if I drink Pepsi or Coke.

I drink diet sodas all the time and I've lost 15 pounds this year.
I think the calories of regular soda outweigh the so-called risks of diet soda.
