I mean my wife and father-in-law are Duke alum, so if anyone has a reason to hope they are one and done, it is me. I cheer against Duke every chance I get, but hating the coach. The guy is all class. He wears a pin on his coat or shirt always. If you ever see a pic of him, look for the pin. Try to figure out why he wears it, then you will know the class of the man. He may be a bad coach, a good coach or something else. But he is a good man.

If you scratch the surface gust a little bit, that program is not nearly as clean as they'd like you to believe. I have no evidence of that; just a suspicion.

Sports is a dirty business, its not a reason to single out a school or a coach.

And that makes it fair game to ask the question. Frankly, I wish someone WOULD "scratch the surface" of that program and see what crawls out.

I remember watching the Final Four they year Louisville won it all with Pervis Ellison. Their final opponent was Duke. At the time we had just started another in our endless series of useless wars. So someone from CBS asked him what he thought. His response: "I wish I was over there with 'em."

I wish he had been, too.

His team of country club white boys seemed shocked that they lost to Pervis and the 'Ville.

if I did not like athletes or coaches who were republicans, I would find it impossible to like any sports team. As for warmongering, he graduated from West Point, was an officer for 6 years and then coached at West Point, I think he likes the military and the young men and women who serve.

A pin on Coach K's lapel serves as a symbol of a strong bond, forged through tragedy

When Ross Deutsch read the advertisement, it seemed too good to be true.

For a fee, he could go to Las Vegas with some friends and attend Michael Jordan's Flight School, essentially a summer camp for basketball-crazed adults. It was a place to live out one's hardwood fantasies for a few days and receive instruction from NBA and college coaches, Hall of Famers among them.

It was 1997, and Deutsch was working in the financial world in Chicago. He was 36; he had the money and an interested friend; and his wife, Mindy, had no objection. He was certainly passionate about basketball and, as a Chicago native, had a love for all things Michael Jordan. He had three young sons -- Rory was the oldest at 6; Robbie and Rickey were younger -- but it was for only a few days, and besides, what kid wouldn't get a kick out of his dad playing hoops for a few days as though he were a star?

A few days later, Ross and his friend David Duckler found themselves in Las Vegas on a Bally's court. They had just finished a few drills and were attending a makeshift draft where they were to be divided into their teams, selected by the coaches in attendance. Across the court, Duke coach and fellow native Chicagoan Mike Krzyzewski, already a two-time national champion, evaluated Deutsch and Duckler and decided to go local, selecting the two friends for his team.

He is a real classy guy. I am all cheering against Duke, the Yankees, the Patriots, or whatever annually successful sports team yo want. I hate powerhouses too, but I would never join the groups claiming some otherwise good guy was somehow disgusting because his sports team was good. Boo him and the team, jeer away, but lets relax with personal attacks on a guy who is pretty well known as a stand up and respectful guy. He is a coach who has made a lot of money and done a lot of good with his wealth and celebrity. I wish more people with wealth and celebrity were like him. Still, I hope Duke loses in the nest round.
